After reading a number of threads and like many others, I was frustrated trying to find a decent looking diesel fueling station for my layout so I took I sat down and took pencil to paper to set out a design for fueling station. It had to meet the following criteria.
- Since it will be used on my seasonal layout, it needed to be small and compact capable of being placed on the floor and stored in a box when not in use.
- It had to be powered by my accessory electrical system.
- It had to be done cheaply as I didn't want to send a lot of money on it.
So I came up with the following. The fueling platform was constructed using about $5.00 worth of basswood. The storage tank was salvaged from $9.00 tank car purchased on eBay. The pump house was constructed from a sheet of Evergreen Plastics polystyrene corrugated siding. The lights were purchased from we-honest on eBay and the pump came from one of our forum sponsors, Model Structures. The materials for the tank platform, hand railings, ladders, pipe and fittings are Plastruct. The paints were left from other projects and the whole thing was built for about $60.00 worth of materials.
