The local toy train dealer here received 80-boxes of "stuff" Mon. or Tue.  It was not until Thursday to they got to my PRR Cabin car Lionel 6-82629.

This is a quick snap taken with old pocket camera.  After looking at the pic posted on the "weekend" thread saw something which will start a separate post on later.

Ron

Dropped by my LHS on Saturday and he was having a blow out sale on Atlas O Trainman RSD4/5 decorated for St Louis Southwestern (Cotton Belt) in Black Widow.  At $149.95 I could not resist and bought one.  It has the same horn and bell as a basic Williams Diesel.  No prime mover sounds.  It has the same excellent level of detail as other Atlas engines and runs great!!!!

BigTruckPete, Apparently, you sure know how to make a vibrant scene. The figures might be static, but the whole ensemble you have crafted is full of life. It takes just a bit of imagination sprinkled onto the whole experience by a viewer to make it seem realistic and in motion. Cool stuff, that. IMHO.

FrankM.

The train show on Sunday yielded a number of 2 rail O antiques.  Because I wasn't able to resist, I'm now up to my brass in winter projects.  Both are kits from unknown manufacturers.  The Atlantic is sheet brass whereas the Mikado has a cast brass boiler.  Both have identical short tenders of sheet brass and branded Canadian Northern.

I'll save the other brass purchase for SWSAT.

Bruce

Another addition to the pile of projects is this Central Locomotive Works GP35.  I get to rework the last owners attempt at soldering.  He removed some of the excess solder with a small grinder, taking any underlying brass detail along with it.  There's already about 3 hours work put into filing away slop and defects.  A bind in a gearbox on one truck also needs attention.  It'll probably go back in the box for now.

Bruce

I'm so glad you found one. They are a rare animal. Usually Indigenous to o scale west and march meets.

Confused because, one, the D&RGW M68 has never been done in O scale except this 2003 run Boo-Rim PSC piece.  So maybe you are asking another Eric? Or me, Erik?

My Menards sauerkraut plant (converted to a pickle plant) needs support, so in

addition to building a cannery, I found today a Lionel pickle car, and have tracked

down an Atlas ART reefer.  (ART reefers were used in quantity to move vegetables

produced along the San Luis Southern, one remote, hardscrabble railroad!, in south central Colorado, where I envision my pickle plant and cannery will get their cucumbers)

Picked up a clean Lionel 2343 Santa Fe F3 pair at the Danville, IN show today, then some very clean Lionel tubular track and a Plasticville union station that was complete and nicely assembled from Train Central in Indianapolis.  Been also slowly aquiring some 2 rail equipment for a future project I may build, for good ol circle L is firmly entrenched at my house.  Mike

I picked up post war set 1485WS ( still waiting for it to come in) original set box, all pieces have original boxes, including the transformer, original papers everything. and it looked other than a 6264 gondola lightly used the gondola some how got some rust on one set of trucks but I have at least 4 of those so no problem there. 2025 with 6466W, 6264 as stated, 6465, 6257 plus track and transformer.

Just received this from MTH's stock but cataloged in 2000.

It will be the basis for a project.  A project that I tried to interest one of the VP's at MTH in going back to email of 2008.  In fact when Mike Wolf was here for the NS Heritage Event I started discussing it, he seemed to like it so much he kept finishing my sentences.  But over 3-years later still no catalog joy.  So I will make my own!  The artwork will be the pain.

Ron

went to a local show with my Dad today. Picked up a Plasticville radio station, and a Log Cabin, to be The Log Cabin Train Shop (anyone remember Bill Trushell?), both $5 each, because they were....glued (gasp!)

and a NYC red gondola for $10, and the dealer tossed in the street light (Kramer IIRC) for free, to go with the other one I found last year.

then when we got back to the car, and Dad opened the trunk, he said this was mine.

I had spotted a bunch of 6" Marx I meant to look over before I left and pick up some...but I forgot about it..

Gentlemen,

I finally picked up the 2 Weaver, made in the USA WAG Box Cars I have been trying to add to my WAG Logging Train, I am real happy with the colors and the detailing of these early WAG Weaver Box Cars.  I also picked up another MTH Christmas Box Car to add to my Christmas Box Car Train. I really like these particular Christmas Cars with the Christ Child pictured on them.  Also picked up an Atlas Premier Steam era PRR Insulated Box Car, that I also really like, details and colors are very nice.

I live in Bullhead City, AZ. We have as many hobby shops here as polar bears.

So I'm going to travel 1 1/2 hours to Las Vegas, NV, Saturday, Dec. 5th to order my  National TrainDay boxcar from Lionel.

The Train Engineer is one of the closest dealers there. That's where I'm headed.

Anyone else going to order one? They're really nice looking cars.

Pittsrailfan,

You got to love those Billy Maz MTH Commerative Box Cars, now that sir is a real nice pick up.  Billy Maz the Greatest 2nd Baseman in Major League Baseball history,

nobody even close to his almost zero error record producing numerous golden gloves and the twin killing, double play records.  The 1st time with my Swissvale buddy Dick Groat at Shortstop, and the all time double play record with Gene Alley at Shortstop, which will never ever be broken again in major league history.  I wish MTH would make a Dick Groat Box Car also. It would be sitting right next to Maz's.

Steamer,

Your 225E with the tender you made is an impressive piece of O Gauge PW Train work.

You might want to break down how you did the tender, especially the matching Gun Metal Paint job for franktrain, got to admit this is one piece of serious PW 225E engine & Tender, infact if it were mine, I would have Guns put a ERR unit in her, for slow speed remote control running.

well thanks guys. just a bunch of junk box parts. The frame is a Prewar tank car frame, a hunk of PVC pipe, and the front half of a 2046 tender shell.found a pair of six axle trucks on da bay. the paint is Rust Oleum another forum member recommended.

and none of that newfangled electronics for this 225E.... she runs great as is.

I've got another 225E shell (gunmetal too) I've thought about rebuilding, but it is missing a chunk in the window area.

I went to the TCA meet up in Cleveland today. It is the third time I have gone. Usually I just walk through and nothing catches my eye. Today was different. Found a Weaver tank car (kit form ) already put together. What made it unique for me was being from western New York Stauffer Chemicals. I use to drive by this plant everyday to work. So I had to have it. A couple of pics..............Paul

Gentlemen,

Just made another deal on a NIB Weaver Masonic Train to add to my Train Collection, thanks to the OGR, ya got to love this fantastic OGR forum.  A new OGR member contacted me recently, after reading my old Masonic Train Thread, we came to an agreement and now I will have a 2nd Complete Masonic Train, so I can run a Double Header Masonic Train with 3 fantastic Shriner Cabooses this Christmas season.  Thanks to Mark Liss who lives here in Pa, for supplying the NIB Weaver Masonic Train.  Eventually I will have Guns (GunrunnerJohn) upgrade the new unused Masonic Train, with ERR to run with my Legacy controls.  What a fantastic Christmas this will be for us, a Lionel/Hallmark Santa Train and now an additional NIB Weaver Masonic Train, yep I am a very happy OGR member.

Hi I recently bought the Lionel 6-38050 Nickel Plate Road Berkshire 2-8-4 Steam Engine in like perfect new condition. After seeing Alex repair of one that had stopping and starting issues and once  he repaired it and I saw how beautifully it looked and sounded I found this one and it is a gorgeous scale engine, can't wait to run it but will check it out  first before powering it up.

What a beautiful engine, with terrific sound qualities !

That little dog is so much fun to have. More fun than trains. I have to say, I like it a lot more than I though I would, it really is a nice train. The lights really make it pop. I actually bought 2, now Im going to get a few of the O-Line Repro Cancer Cure cars to pull with them

Yesterday I assembled a READING passenger train to operate on my OUTER mainline loop.  It was a "long" READING Trainmaster and five coaches.  Wife Suzie also wanted a freight train, so I assembled one with about nine cars including a nice GN caboose. This train is pulled by a Northern Pacifific SD9 type.  Runs on the INNER mainline loop.

On the passing siding, which branches off the INNER loop and ties back in at the other end of the layout, I installed another 022 switch and ran the track by the Greyhound Depot and tied it to a stub of an 022 switch at the other end of the layout that I had never completed.  This is known as the "Nicole Loop",  named after the 19-year old neighbor across the street who took her shoes off and climbed up on to the layout and carefully walked, mostly kneeled, and completed the track work for this loop.  I could not reach this area!  This girl is great.  She knows how to lay Lionel track.  Maybe I could "hire" her out to you guys.  (grin)  She's cute too and going to Nursing School.

Anyway, I put track bumpers across both ends of this loop, at least temporarily, and when I run the freight and passenger trains in opposite directions, a "Merry Christmas" trolley from MTH, strides back and forth around this loop.

I haven't worked diligently on this layout as I was doing before.  There is a lot to be doing including wiring.  More signal work, including proposed automatic control.  A second level too, but we must finish the first level before anything else.  This includes ties, ballast, and ground cover.  Suzie has a huge collection of old Plasticville structures but it will take time to piece them together.

I know--you guys want pictures..   Hang in there !!

I just bought a 1000' spool of 22 ga security wire of the bay for $45 to wire my switches. Took everything off track power last month. Plus I got a hug box of 6 pole terminal blocks to wire up switches with. Once I connect the MTH AIU's and the Lionel SC-2 Ill need multiple terminals on each switch

Lately, I've been building up a space/military consist. I have my childhood helicopter car and missile launching car, but rarely had them on the layout. So, I decided to add to it......submarine car, minuteman launcher car, Mercury Atlas rocket/parachute car and a searchlight car. But I needed an appropriate engine to pull it. So, I looked for and found, a 44 missile launching engine. Pictures and a short video below.        I thought it would take my usual two days or so to get it in good cosmetic and mechanical running shape. Ran into problems and it took a week, but I'm very pleased with it now. I had to get the launching mechanism working (it's foam pad was dust). Problems with the front truck. Found a perfect match for the paint for the touchups (they are invisible). But mainly, it was a traction problem. The motor is pretty powerful, but there's not enough weight over the power truck to keep it from slipping it's wheels at startup. So, with strategically placed lead ingots and crushed pieces of 1/4 inch lead wire glued to the frame and shell, the problem was solved (there's about a 1/2 lb of weight in there now....see pics) . I also drilled out the fake headlights and installed 2 5mm LEDs. Works terrific.

Got home from the Pgh TCA show with some 'treasures" and money left over-which was good.  There was a decent crowd but as noon approached it thinned out. saw a lot of neat stuff, some ridicuously high prices and some decent ones, too. Only bought one engine, a Standard gauge #8e, that was restored. I now have two so one will sacrifice its motor soon. Got a nice signal bridge plus a couple of  target signals.  It was a fun time.

In my quest to look for certain Weaver cars I was able to get these three flats with trailers from north of the border, 1 three rail and 2 two rail. I'll have to work on the two rail I found out they don't track well through my Ross switches and unfortunately the scale couplers won't couple to the three rail couplers. The other day, I found this book at a second hand book store for the price of a magazine. Been wanting a copy for years...

The irony was I actually was within 20 feet of Link for the better part of an hour once, in a railroad yard several years ago, and I didn't know that had been him until the following day after he'd long gone. It still kills me to know I was that close and didn't know I was standing next to arguably the greatest railroad photographer who ever lived.

I bought a LionChief Hallmark Santa Train Set for my wife.  I just finished wrapping it for Christmas.  She fell in live with it when she saw it at the Hallmark store, then I showed her the videos Hallmark has online.  She thinks we are passing it by.  She will love it running on one track and the Polar Express on the other!  I was seriously considering breaking down and buying the Premier PS3 Western Maryland H9, my favorite railroad.  I was looking at it at Mercer Junction a month ago, and I checked earlier this week to learn Dave still has some.  I was feeling guilty about the cost.  It's twice what I ever paid for an engine.  After I decided to by the Santa set, I felt better!     I'll buy a used H9 when they come out with PS4 and one of you fellows puts a PS3 H9 up for sale.

Yep. I have to send a thank-you E-mail to Midge and Andy at MTH for taking my suggestion to heart. My scale-wheeled Big Boy arrived Monday and I ran some track inspection tests at the club tonight. It found several bad spots, but it did negotiate 36" radius (O-72) curves, including a Ross turnout. It ran very smoothly with very good sounds. Can't wait until the prototype is operational and MTH makes a sound file from it. I'm going to put a Kadee on the rear and bring it back down Saturday, but the uneven spots in our track really drive this one nuts, so it will (for now) only make brief appearances at the club, but I know a couple of layouts where it should run nicely.

My amazing wife got me this Jim Jordan print for Christmas, one of the few prints made for the RR I model!

It's about 2X3 feet (you can see the lantern to the right, and to the left is a White Pass & Yukon RR rail slice, to hold it down from the rolled condtion) , so now I need to find someone to frame the thing for me.

Purely by chance, I found this store a town away from our home.  They sell picture framing "kits" with everything you need, and custom make the frame to fit the size you need.  Easy to do, and much less than a framing shop... google Poster Frame Depot in Derby Ct.... yes, they ship all sizes!  I have no affiliation with them!

It's supposed to be just past tunnel # 2 going into the Doe River Gorge, right outside of Hampton, TN. The track still exists here (having been re-laid in the early 60s for a ill-fated tourist attraction and now rebuilt by the Christian camp that owns the entire property and former ET&WNC right of way) and I've ridden it in a motor car on two occasions: http://www.doerivergorge.com/

The problem is you wouldn't see any houses from this portion of the line, so it's artistic license.

I since realized I had a frame for another print I wasn't going to put back on the wall, which was a great color for this print and exactly fit it!

Just received a couple of police cars listed as uncatalogued items on the MTH web site.

30-50095 is a 1950 Ford 2-door coupe - Chicago Police Dept

30-50094 is a 1950 Ford 4-door sedan - San Francisco Police Dept

I picked these up from Trainworld December 23rd.  At that point I could only find them on Trainworld and MTH direct, but they are now appearing at other dealers too.

The front end of the Chicago car is sitting a little lower than it should be.  There are two screws on the bottom. I will open it up tonight and have a look.

What caught my eye was the pre-light bar and pre-beacon ray lights on these cars and the radio antennaIMG_3024 webIMG_3025 web.

The weekend before Christmas I received the last edition to Corrugated Container Corporation's N&W passenger train. This is the Observation car. Since this was the last in the series (611 loco & Tender, Passenger Coach, Observation Car), they used photos of actual employees as passengers in the car. Fittingly, Jerry Higginbotham, Vice President of Manufacturing, is the Conductor looking out the vestibule window. Very sadly a few days after receiving this car, Jerry passed away from cancer. It was a sad time for our family as Jerry was my daughter's Father-in-law.

I had to travel to the PO today to pick up a heavy box filled with Lionel iron. Got 3 locomotives that run, two shells and two ratty tenders.  Have the biggest loco(2065) cleaned up, roof corners straightened, new head light but needs lubed. Will work on the others tomorrow. One is a nice 224E with boxpok drivers. One newspaper wrapping one loco was dated in 2005 so it has been awhile.  There is a motor, too with 6 drivers but no e-unit so it won't run but will play with it later. More fun.

I was at the Train Show in Richmond, Ca. Saturday and I got a deal on the four binder set of Lionel Post-War repair manuals. Also, I met up with a parts dealer I thought was no longer in the trade. They Are!  And My GF got a dvd about haunted places in the South. (who knew they sold things like that at a train show) I have to add some pages from the two binders due to some missing pages. But at $160+tax for all four, not a bad deal.

It's in much better shape than the above plate but does show some wear (the guy I traded with just wanted an EMD plate and didn't care about condition, he liked the earlier style). I'm just fine with that, though.

The problem is that the locomotive still exists in freight service. I have no idea when the plate was yanked off but looking through photos I found online of the locomotive, it apparently hasn't had plates for a very long time. Two owners before the current one ran that loco with no plates.

I really wish I could post a photos of it but I have a feeling someone would look up the number, realize it's still running out there and then I'm dealing with a whole different situation as well all know there are a lot of people online who exist to make like difficult for others...

Managed to finally snag one of these Sunset 2-rail PRR S-2 turbines (early version) after searching many different venues for more years than I care to think about.  Will not be painting this guy as I prefer the natural brass finish for display only.  And the detailing on this brass model is really sensational - far surpassing that of Lionel or MTH examples.

Needless to say I'm now a happy camper!

Very nice indeed!  I understand your reluctance to paint it, especially if it's only a shelf queen.   Still, a nice glossy coat of Brunswick green sure would show off the detail.  That beast must be close to 30" long!

Beats the RailKing S2 I got yesterday, but I must compliment MTH on their rendition.  It has the bulk of a scale S2 yet compressed nicely to negotiate most layouts.  WAY bigger than the traditional postwar size.

WestinghouseEMDdemoguy,

Very nice engine and all the others too!  You sure live up to your name!    Here in Northwest Pennsylvania, we kind of like the GEVO!  How many demo units do you have?

I believe I'm up to 7 EMD Demonstrators but I'm still hunting for the atlas o unit#6.

Matt,

Very nice delivery by Mr. Ups!  He braved almost blizzard conditions yesterday to deliver a PWC Texas Special F-3 A-A set I bought from a, you guessed it, a forum member.  He pointed out the only flaw was a small paint chip on the roof of one of the units, and he was right.  I can not find another flaw.  I haven't had a chance to see how they run, and probably won't for a few days because my wife is getting a knee replaced Friday, but at least I got these two shots.

After buying a used Williams by Williams set of Texas Special passenger cars from you guessed it again, another forum member; I thought my postwar Texas Special 211 PA A-A looked more seedy and are much better suited to their postwar freight train.
