I just received a cab 1 and was wondering if I needed any other power supply other than the base and the remote control.

I'm not sure what you're referring to but you do need the walwart power supply that comes with the command base to power it. If you're talking about powering trains, yes, you need some sort of transformer to power the trains. The cab1/ command base is just the control system not the means to power the trains.

Yes you need a transformer to supply power for the trains, the cab 1 remote and base are strictly for operating the train, they do not supply track power.
I would recommend a good modern power supply like one of Lionels 180w powerhouses item # 6-22983 if you don't already have one.
yes, I was referring to the transformer. I do have the Walmart the came with the system. Thank you guy for your responses.
BTW, don't fiddle with the wall wart for the command base. That third prong is extremely important for the rf signal propagation. Don't remove the ground prong and do not use a cheater to "isolate" it.
If you have a "Walmart" brick with that command base, my guess is it won't work! As Chuck says, the brick that comes with the command base is unique.
That looks like the Lionel 3 prong power supply for the base, what is on the other side?
That will power the base, but not the track or trains
Measure from the ground prong to the outside of the barrel on the secondary side of the transformer. If you don't have a direct connection there, it won't work.
I think that some of you guys are confusing JoeG a bit here. Especially after he inadvertently said 'Walmart' instead of 'wallwart'.
JoeG, the power supply for your base will only power the command base, and should be plugged directly into a wall socket for the best results. Some extension leads don't have a very good ground connection, and that is important for TMCC.
However, you will still need an AC power supply for running the trains. If you have an existing AC transformer, you can use that. Just turn the power all the way up for command control running. If you don't have an existing AC power supply, then a Lionel 180W brick is a very good choice. But almost any 18v AC power supply can be used. Until I bought some transformer bricks, I used a couple of CW-80 transformers to power my Legacy locomotives. I just connected one to each track, and turned the handles up to full power.
Nice job of cutting to the chase Nicole.
If it's the Lionel wall-wart and not a Walmart product, my answer would change.
Yes, My auto correct must have kicked in when I was writing that. I didn't mean wal-mart. And from what Nicole said it makes plenty of sense now. My question was on the need an A/C transformer in addition to the CAB 1. (which I have an older one I will try to use for now.)
