Hi GUYZ,

I have a classic TrainMaster Command Control Cab 1 6-12868 That I have had for a long time 2002.  I use it on one side of the layout along with the Command Base and the Legacy is hooked up too.  Recently the little rubber keys on the TMCC Controller are getting tough to press and get the little noise to tell you it ids engaged, especially the ENG key.  I took the controller apart and cleaned all the pads and board with a q tip and denatured alcohol.  Put it back together and it did help the keys except for the ENG key.  I use a pen tip minus the ball point to engage the ENG and it works that way but with only using your fingers it won't.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?  I looked on Lionel site for a replacement rubber pad but they are unavailable.

Buy a new one.   I don't think there is any real fix to that.  I've often wondered if there's a way to replace the coating on those keys, but nobody has come up with anything.

I purchased a Kit that claimed to restore these.  At the time I was trying to fix the keypad for a Bose radio.  It didn't work.

While it's NOT the one I listed below maybe you will have more success than I.

Looking at the reviews on Amazon, it has a 27% 1 star review rating. Buyer beware.

Doubtless posted by people that didn't read the instructions.   It worked fine for me on a few keypads.

This product is new to me - thanks for posting.

I read the reviews for context.  Some of the negative reviews appear to be as GRJ mentioned, others were possibly due to the buttons being too far gone to be successfully repaired, and some may have been due to a functional problem with the underlying switch.  Overall score is 3.5 stars.  The forum members who have spoken positively about the product are a knowledgeable bunch - I would trust their opinion.  The product is only $12 and can be returned within 30 days - if I had button problems, I'd certainly give it a try.
