The direction switch/button on one of my two Legacy Cab-2 remotes stopped working. I have tried using the throttle control (stop the engine, wait a second, turn speed control CCW) and it has worked a couple of times. However, the last time I tried this to change the direction from reverse to forward, the result was the engine, with 20 cars, running in reverse rather quickly - a no-no.

I just called Lionel to inquire about the availability of the reversing switch, to replace it myself. They said that I would need to send them the Cab-2, BUT they do not have the switch, so they cannot fix it.

Is there a way to fix this switch? (So far all I have tried is to remove the cover and spray the switch (tiny hole on the side) with contact cleaner, but this had no effect.

Thanks!

Alex

You may have already done this, but I would call Lionel back and specifically ask if they had some Cab 2’s that have been returned (in their junk pile) that possibly would have a switch that they would be able to change out for you.   It’s my thoughts from reading so many topics concerning the Cab 2, it’s going to be a long term controller. They are still making the #990 Legacy System.  I’ve seen several Legacy sets for sale here on the forum and purchased an extra for backup. I also have 2 #993 Legacy expansion sets, I’m prepared.  As last resort, you might reach out to Alex M, Gunrunner John, and others with electronic expertise. Good luck in getting this issue resolved.  Thanks for posting. I love your layout. Happy Railroading

I think you may have been too specific.  Last time I checked, they were fixing these on an extended warranty.  I would have just called and said I had a broken CAB2 and got an RMA.

John,

Yes, I did that - not too late. Thank You!

I called them, obtained  an RA#, received the shipping label and letter, and will be sending it in next week. I am Just hoping they will remain open for business and repairs for a while longer.
