I have a Canon S100 which takes great HD video.  I recently made an adapter that mounts it on a depressed center PW flatcar.  The camera is a little long for bridges and passing other trains, but it does okay for most shots while rolling along the rails.  One thing I'd like to know is if there are small HD cameras with a remote control?  I want to start the recording at places where I can't reach.   It would be nice to have the remote features for other things as well.

I also want to start posting some videos & have a youtube accout but never did any editing.  Can I just take a real long video and edit it on youtube?

Thanks for reading, John

Prior to the high-definition bandwagon, I scratchbuilt a custom camcorder carrier for my then-current model, a JVC 'Celebrity series' DV camcorder which had an upright-narrow form factor that let it squeeze into tunnels that some O Gauge cars couldn't.

My current camcorder is a Canon VIXIA-series HD unit that records directly to an SD card and it's body mostly arranged horizontally behind the lens. The monitor can be rotated 180 degrees and folded against the camera body with the screen facing out so you can observe its recording status as you start/stop it with the included remote while rolling about the layout. The size and form factor make it easy to rubber-band it to any ordinary flatcar for 'engineer's eye' videos in 'O'.

Most modern pocket cameras can take pretty good HD video. Many of these have remote controls available too, although some remotes are a bit limited in practice.

As for editing, it's best to do this on your computer. If you have a Mac, the included iMovie software is great for simple editing. I'm pretty sure that Windows has something similar too.
