In my quest to find a locomotive to pull my Alaska train I can across this guy:
It's unpowered and I'd like to know if powering it is an easy proposition? A simple drop out and install trucks or are we looking at major surgery? Definitely like the looks of this one, something of a brute look.

I really don't know. You should look up Lionel parts of this loco. Do the trucks have pick-ups? If not is it an easy fix or do you have buy a whole new powered truck?
Many times by the time you get althe parts the cost point is more than hunting down a good used one with minimal wear.
Look at the frame where the trucks attach. Are there holes for the motors? At one time, Lionel had different frames for powered and non-powered units.
Either way, it won't be cheap. You will need 2 motors and trucks, probably electro couplers and lights, plus the full TMCC package. If you don't get a rough cost here, and you do get to York, go to the Lionel booth and ask for Mike Reagan. He can tell you everything you need and prices.

Sure it can! Best thing to do is look on the bay and purchase a TMCC Nickle Plate Road C420. Pop the shell and then do a swap. Done for under 200 dollars.
