I have been having difficulty getting this Lionel dome coach apart to put people in the seats upstairs. There are 4 small screws on the bottom, two at each end. Removing them loosens the roof at each end, but the center still seems firmly attached. Is there something I'm missing to remove the entire roof?  Thanks for any help.

Bill, are you sure that isn't an MTH unit? If it is I'll go grab one of mine and take it apart to guide you...I have to figure that even if that is lionel, they can't be too different.

edit- mine is a slightly different roof design, vent wise....give me a minute{I'll need to know how mine comes apart anyway when I repaint them all into Burlington" units!}

My MTH roof is a tad different...let's hope the rest is the same!

-Start out with the 2 end chassis screws undernieth

-remove the roof by gentlely prying between the body and the roof in the middle- the ends should be loose now via the removed screws. I used a thin standard jewelers screwdrive tip...not a phillips version.

-pop the roof off and you now have access to the dome screws

-remove those 4 and viola!

...your trains/results may vary...hopefully not.

edit -BTW, if you happen to break your car while doing this...I am in need of one railking truck for my double door bagage car...let's hope it doesn't come down to that...but if it does!!!!!!!.........[lol]

Thank you all for the advice, I'll give it a try. It is definitely Lionel, even though I agree it looks like MTH.  They were made around 2000 and came in a 4-pak and 2 add-on pack. The 2-pack number is 6-39062.  I have 5 of the 6 cars, one of the coaches got mixed up in another train, I think, a few seasons ago at the B&O Museum layout.
