Can a 5V trolley board be reloaded by the Dealer Loader Program so it can be a steam or diesel board and then be able to edit its name?

Yes.
Bob,

Not exactly.
You can, indeed, use the Service Loader Program to load a new sound file into any PS2 board and, at that time only, assign a new name to the engine.
However, you still will not be able to assign a Custom Name to the engine, since the 5 volt PS2 board is still a trolley/subway board, which is a different piece of hardware than a standard 5 volt PS2 board.
This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Thanks for the fast reply.
I will keep this mind to use my CTA Trolley Board as a future spare.
I bought your book last year and it did come in handy in the last 2 weeks.
My 10 year old TIU gave up, so I bought an all new system which gives me a spare remote. The fast response of the new system is great.
Barry, It really isn't a different piece of hardware is it? The board is a PS-2 5V with the Flash DSP for trolley/articulated steam, and since the flashing can only be done at the factory/MTH it has a different part number. Similiar to the PS-2 3V boards that are flashed for pantographs or quillable whistle.
Are you saying you can't edit the name with DCS for processors that are flashed? Does this apply to PS-2 3V flashed processors also? G

It is different. Whether it's firmware or a physical part isn't the issue. The board as it comes from MTH cannot be made to take a custom Name.

The situation is the same for 3 volt subways and trolleys.
Barry, does an Electroliner have a trolley board or a regular board? Thanks.
If you mean the North Shore Electroliner, mine has a trolley board.
Thanks. I'm thinking of setting mine up for a route on our museum layout, with announcements at the stops.

So... If I have loaded an engine sound file and assigned a name and now wish to edit that name (and have it withstand a factory reset) I must reload the sound file etc.?
Cheryl,

Yes, if the PS2 board is from a subway or a trolley.

Thanks, Barry, engine is a Greenbriar with an upgrade kit, so I should be able to just edit the name, not reload file.
