Hello and sorry for the title, not sure how to state my question.  I was just under my holiday layout looking for my misplaced multimeter when I saw my horrendous wiring of a TPC.  I threw it in last year when I got the bug to run my dad's old 726 on my Legacy only layout.  It still has alligator clips making the contacts.

My layout also has another loop that's running a Legacy loco.  Well I'd like to run dad's postwar GG1 along with the 726 but don't have another TPC.

So, here's the question... can I simply wire (add) a ZW to the tracks and leave the brick and the TPC wired but not turned on to run the postwar locos without any problems?  And, would it harm the ZW to power up the brick but not the ZW?

Hopefully this makes sense... thank you for reading... Merry Christmas to all

Store the ZW, Leave the TPC and brick in place, and program the TPC from your Legacy controller "TR-*", "M", "set" for conventional running with your Legacy handheld !

Or, Remove the Brick connect the ZW to the TPC, program the brick for Command, turn the TPC on and off with the handheld but vary the volltage conventionally with the ZW. There is more than one way to run 'em!

It sounds as if you would like to know if you can wire the Brick with TPC to the track and the ZW to the same track at the same time. I am not sure why you would want to do this but if this is really what you want to do you could use a DPDT toggle switch wired to select one power supply or the other. This would stop power from one from back feeding into the other.

Yes that's exactly what I would like to do.  I want to do it to run my old postwar locos with their original power supply while at the same time, have the ability to run my Legacy stuff (but) without adding any switches.  The smoke pellets seem to smell better with a ZW.

Would it hurt anything to do this?

Just add ZW to the track but not turn on the brick or Legacy system.  I also wanted to run a couple TMCC locos in conventional mode (something I've never done since the Legacy base puts them in TMCC).

I don't understand why you would want to do that. The TPC allows you to run conventional using the brick. Then you dial the voltage up or down with the Cab2 remote.

There's no benefit to doing that, but there is some con's because the ZW doesn't have the protection that the brick or TPC has.
