i was walking thru our local flea market and i purchased a lionel starter set.

it was in the original box ( box is beaten up ) and it says lionel "steam freight with headlight

# 19192."

the pieces are: black locomotive #1060, black plastic coal car, blue utility car , red caboose, and a standard oval.

i hooked it up with the transformer/lock-on and i was pleased when it worked.

can anyone give me any info on this set?  is the headlite and smokestack supposed to work?

any help would be appreciated.

You have found the place to answer just about any question regarding O Gauge trains. May I suggest you look at the For Sale category on this forum. At the top of the page go to Forum List, then Trains for Sale. Buy the cars that appeal to you, they don't have to be something that matches that exact set (unless of course that is what you are going for).

With a little patience you will get anything you want at better prices than the other place you referenced.

In addition, the forum sponsors are your first place to visit to buy trains at competitive prices and more important - excellent service.

Have fun and welcome to the forum.

mrvinny,
Yes you are in the right place.  Ask any question you have.  Be on the lookout for train shows in your area.  You can find any vintage of trains at them.  I would recommend not spending too much money until you learn more about the hobby and what appeLs to you.  However don't worry, you can always sell something to one of the honest folds here.  Case in point, I bought a steam locomotive here last yeR and love it.However while it negotiated my rather sharp curves fine, it just looked too big in my small space.  I just sold it a month ago and today picked up a smaller steamer from a local forum member.  All three deals were within about $25 of each.  I had fun with it, got to know 3 forum members better, and I have a new to me loco that has more detail than the first.  That's over a half dozen wins!!
