A guy down the road has this layout and its for sale. It was meant to hang from the ceiling with cables. Does anyone know what brand o gauge track this is? The layout is 8 x 14 long. he wants 400.00 for it. I would like to buy it if the track is worth the money. Thanks for the help.. Bob

The three rail looks like Gargraves track.
Looks like Gargraves and HO on top. MTH or Lionel fastrack track on the floor, the kind that comes with starter sets. . I would pass on this menagerie. The GGs,once bent into a curve is hard to disassemble and reuse. I would start over with one track system and buy new,you would be better off. Personally I prefer K-Line shadow rail. You could also look at the track Menards is offering. Track is personal preference.

I agree.....it looks like Gargraves.

That looks like Bachmann "N" track in the middle under the "O" double 8 over/under, & LGB Gauge 1 around the perimeter. There's a lot more than $400 in sectional track alone in there.
Looks like Gargraves phantom rail track. Bottom right corner looks like G gauge brass. If your needing track I would buy Gargraves new. It can be had for just over $2.00 per foot. If your wanting to take the setup home and run it as is I would say that's a great buy considering the time it takes to build a loop like this. So my answer is salvage track "no" - drag the whole thing home and run trains on it "yes".
That's 14' x 8'? Looks much bigger.
And yes, that appears to be GarGraves track. If the track is sectional and in good shape, then there is well over $400 worth of track there.
I can't imagine trying to hang that layout from the ceiling.

At first it looks like a pretty good deal. Unless you don't mind running on different track types and different scales, most of it will go unused. Notice the 2 rail stuff under the layout? Is that home made track? Tempting but I would pass.

It's Gauge 1:
Looks like Gargraves flex track, notice the uneven tie spacing that happens when bending into curves, an easy fix just slide them.
That is a lot of track and roadbed for the money. The curved track can be used again in its current radius. If you can use this as is go for it, then sell off the track you don't want. How big are the curves what diameter or radius? This would be easy to cut into sections and move or repurpose.
It would be a personal decision to buy the layout with track.
There is a lot of track there, so it would be a good buy, my question would be how do you take it apart to transport it? Looks like three different gauge tracks on that layout.
Gargraves track is a good system when used with Ross switches.

will all the benchwork-lumber go with it? wood is getting kinda pricey these days......if it was me ,i'd offer $300-325 and see where it goes....Jim
Gargraves, if you keep it, might be better to get new track.
Cabinetbob,
Before you buy this layout, make sure you know how you are going to get this to your home. Especially, if you get the wood. Ask yourself is this your dream layout? If this is Gargraves track and if the board doesn't come with it, then you are going to have to remount it. That may not be easy. It may be easier for you to start from scratch with all new track. Please take your time and think what you are going to do before you make a decision.
Thanks for all your support !! I already have a large layout, but you never have enough !! I didn't know anything about gargraves track, so know I know. I f I was to buy this, it would need a special place to put it for it can't come apart, so I think I will pass on this at this time. I like a lot of buildings etc. and on this layout, that wouldn't work too. It's too bad, someone put a lot of money and effort into this.. Thanks again for the comments.. Bob
Most likely it is Gar graves. From what I see in the picture the curves would definitely have to be done over. Hard to tell in the pic but I think I see LGB, gar graves, HO, not sure about N gauge track but I think the track in the middle may be S gauge. As mentioned the price of lumber is getting pricey. All the other scales could be replaced with three rail. Another thing is how to take it apart with little damage and transport it. If you think it is worth the time and effort start with a low offer..........Paul
its easier than you think to cut, move, and reassemble, or use to make new layout. Depends on the condition of the track and the roadbed type.

That 2-rail track int he bottom right corner doesn't look like G at all--I'd guess it's old (maybe repop) strap rail, perhaps C & F or even Lionel.
Because of the time involved to disassemble and transport, the deal is at a lower number. There is at least $200 of FasTrack on the floor at sell it quickly prices. Any sectional pieces of the O gauge GG are re-usable. Same for the HO. The 2-rail track is very interesting.
I would offer the $200 and salvage it.
If it's close to me, I'll buy it at $400.
e-mail in profile, let me know location and seller's contact info.
thanks!
This is a no brainer, it is a bargain at $400. If I lived neareby I would beat you to the door!
That HO track could have been used for BAchmann's ON30. IF you like the track menagere or just want to run O scale/guage 1, then get it. IT doesn't look too difficult to purcge the HO track for some scenic items.
Thanks again for all the great comments. I'm going over there Friday nite to look at it to see it in person , them make up my mind.. Again.. thanks for the comments.. Bob
