Scott,
Could A DCS explorer unit interface with the TIU so I could just leave one or two of these at the other sites Where I run trains?
The DCS Explorer cannot interface directly with a TIU. It is intended to work independently of a TIU with its own power supply.
However, if a TIU's channel's power is shut down, the DCS Explorer can operate 3 engines on the track that's connected to the shut down TIU channel, and will even back-power that TIU channel. This can permit careful operation from the TIU channel at the same time as the DCS Explorer. The DCS Remote operator and the DCS App operator could even both be operating the same engine at the same time, although I would not recommend doing so.
Further, refer to The DCS Companion 2nd Edition, in two places:
- Page 212, 7. Using the DCS Explorer With More Than 3 DCS Engines
- Pages 216-217, Appendix D: More Than 100 Command Control Engines
You'll see that there's a method whereby you can preload the DCS App so that the DCS Explorer operator can select from more than 3 engines in the app's Engine Roster, thus duplicating the contents of the museum's DCS Remote.
