No way I am paying 100 bucks more for a allegheny ...

Also very interesting to see the large delta between Charlie Ro's "early buy" and "regular prices" this year.  On some items, the delta is the usual $15-$20, which isn't all that big of a penalty for waiting.  For the Allegheny, the delta bumps up to $50... and for the VisionLine GG-1, it's a whopping $110 if you wait to order after 3/30.    Interesting strategy for the GG-1, 'cause it might prove to be an incentive for some folks sitting on the fence.  If they don't want to spend $1190 for a GG-1, they certainly won't want to spend $1299 later.  Sort of the better of two evils, if you will.    They'll be spitting nails doing it, but $1190 is better to lock in now vs. $1299 a month later.  And Charlie Ro isn't requiring a down-payment to pre-order.   So it's a no-brainer once you're hooked... Can you feel the line pulling you in?

Of course, some dealers will post that so-and-so just ordered two GG-1's here, followed by another guy ordering 3 or 4 later the same day.  But what they're not seeing are all the folks who didn't order because they were turned off by the price.  Me?  I'm just glad I found that MTH Bicentennial GG-1 a few weeks ago.    With the money I saved on the GG-1, perhaps that little voice inside me will win out and I'll channel those funds toward a GS-4.

All kidding aside though, I'm surprised at the range of pre-order prices thus far.  Even more interesting is the fact that there doesn't seem to be any rhyme-or-reason between the prices posted by Lionel-direct dealers and those dealing through distributors.    Very strange.  Hennings Trains has passenger car prices (i.e., for the entire 7-car sets) right on par with Charlie Ro's prices.   And I can't recall anybody coming in close to Charlie Ro's passenger car prices.  Interesting times for sure.
