The Chicago O Scale Show has been about the largest 2 rail meet in the US for quite a few years.  With hobby shops stocking O scale 2 rail being few and far between this meet provides an excellent opportunity for those considering 2 rail to see what's available, talk with manufacturer's reps, and to visit several interesting model railroads.  While nothing close to TCA's York meet in size, this show will not disappoint if you're interested in 2 rail.  Here is the link to show info:  http://www.marchmeet.net/

I'd be interested in knowing who among those that participate on the OGR Forum plan on attending the show - and hope to see/meet you there.

Regarding Fridays, it's a good idea to keep an eye on the tour schedule.  Pending weather and other considerations there may be prototype tours scheduled that day.  One year we made the Illinois Railway Museum your.  A different year they had a guided behind-the-scenes tour of one of the passenger stations downtown which unfortunately we missed.

I've made the show a couple of times in the last few years.  I'm still undecided about this year.

I may try to go.  I have to ask a potentially stupid question though... I would be more interested inolder stuff  and parts, does tht kind of stuff show up with frequency?  Stuff like Scalecraft, Saginaw, old Walthers kits or cars, early brass, what ever I like I guess, but I do like to rebuild stuff.  Thanks in advance for any input!

Dennis,

Last year was the first time I visited this meet & it seemed like a majority of the models & parts were for older prototypes, with obsolete road names. I mainly buy models of current rolling stock & locomotives & there weren’t much selection.

These are just my opinion,

Thanks,

Dennis - You'll see a few tables with 1930-50's era models - but in recent years the number seems to be falling.  You will find a very large number (the majority) of tables with models of 1930-50 era prototypes.  Addressing Naveen's point - those modeling current day equipment may find thin pickings as far fewer models have been made for the current era than for the steam to diesel transition era. I'd like to see some of those exquisite OM factory painted modern era diesels.

be gentle Naveen - I prefer "heritage" to "obsolete"

There remains an abundance of such items with prices ranging from bargain to reasonable to ridiculous.  You may have to scrape the mold off some items,

Ed,

English is not my native language & when I said obsolete I was referring to railroads that are no longer in business or those that were acquired by other companies, also what some hobbyists refer to as Fallen Flags. I didn’t think them as heritage. But I understand that the same word may have other meanings. What does “Heritage” mean to you?

Also at last year’s March meet, I was disappointed by the lack of models for contemporary rolling stock. This year, I plan to contact P&D Hobby, Caboose Stop Hobbies or JD’s Trains, to see if they could bring some of their in-stock modern models that I want to buy.

These are just my opinion,

Thanks,

Pretty much the same here unfortunately. Have done the Chicago trip in the Summertime and it is brutal enough then. In iffy weather definitely a no go. Add to that, not having the $$$ to buy anything and it's a no brainer. Send us some images please! Thanks!
