I'm currently in Cincinnati until at least the end of May as I return to UC to finish my degree from many years ago.  My permanent landing spot after I graduate is absolutely up in the air for now.  So I've brought a very small amount of possessions with me, and this includes model train items.

I'd be curious to hear about any 2-rail groups in this area.  Or any groups for that matter without regard to scale.  Even a local division of the NMRA.  Something that I can participate in while in this area.

One thing in particular I'd like to find is somebody that can do some light machining for me, or point me in the direction of somebody that does.

Any and all ideas are appreciated!

Thanks,

Jim

There is an O Scale club in cincinnati that has their own building and layout.   Probably get all your questions answered there.    also, I think both Cinci and Dayton have active NMRA groups.    Mike Brestal, who is a past president of the NMRA is a member of the O Scale club.     He owns (or did) and operates a camera and hobby shop I think.

Also Bob Bartizek, who is a member of the 3 rail side of this forum lives in Lebanon.    Although 3 rail, his layout is all scale equipment and he hosts regulare operating sessions with switchlists etc.    Also he has contact with other modelers in the area.    Mike havron, a friend of Bob's uses a machinest in nearby Kentucky.

Thank you for the quick responses.  Bob, I received your email and will get in touch with the O scale group.  I have gaps in my class schedule on Tuesdays and Thursdays which may dovetail nicely with some of their meeting times.  And I'd love to take you up on your invitation to visit your layout.  I just missed by a month the recent visits as seen in Erik Lindgren's video posted yesterday.  If you have a time in mind, say an open house or scheduled operating session, let me know.  I have generally flexible time on the weekends and Tuesdays and Thursdays.  I will get busier though toward the end of the semester.

I will also look into the local division meetings and the club that meets at Cincinnati Union Terminal.

The type of machining work I'm particularly interested in at the moment is to have a frame shortened by a couple of feet with a splice plate to tie it back together.  I'll have a few unneeded bumps and edges removed at the same time.  All this while maintaining the spacing on the existing motor mounts.  I'll see if I can line something up once I get in touch with the clubs.

Cheers!

Jim
