I am about to purchase a pair of Lionel bar end trucks (with tabs) for a 6464 project I am doing. I'm sure they will need to be cleaned and spiffy up'ed. Any suggestions on what to use and how to get them as close to new looking as possible? Thanks in advance and have a great weekend !! turtle7

I spray with electronic cleaner and use a soft brass brush.
Small wire wheel in a Dremel makes fast work of wheel crud and rust. Then a light brushed on coating of WD-40 on the truck.

I do something similar, but if there is hard crud on the wheels, I usually scrape it off first with a small screwdriver. I'll also spray WD 40 instead of brushing it on, and wipe it off.
Note that the truck's wheels will spin like crazy when using small wire wheels on them. Eye protection may be warranted, especially if using non brand name wire wheels.
Remember that WD42 will not be enough of a wheel/axel lubricant. I like a drop pf synthetic oil (Liquid Bearings is my fav) at each wheel
I just scrape the crud off with an old pocket knife.
