So! This is where I'm gonna be storing all the pictures and layout updates and alll that crap that goes with it.

I'm starting with an ex-pantry door that's only 28" wide... And it was free so that's that. O27 or other banked track is what's getting used and thankfully I have stacks of that. I'm going to get some grass mat and other things from the LHS tomorrow to start on it and keep scouring ebay and here for some tin buildings.

The track plan is going to be a simple crossover with some switching like posted below, similar to one found on the original Hafner instructions.

This shape layout looks deceptively fun!! I’ve drawn these possibilities out many times. The long straights and sudden turns are super fun!

Hopefully by "super fun" you don't mean "endless hours repairing walls and rolling stock" !

I also picked up a stack of Lionel 1024 switches the other day (15 for $2.50 ea) and I think they'll be just fine for what I need and the two layouts I'm trying to build.

A project I really need to get to. This WAS my clockwork layout. Most of the track that it was made from came from a large boxed Hafner set. Sold the set so I took the track off. I think I have accumulated enough banked track to rebuild it.

Steve - looked like a nice layout at the time, hope you get around to rebuilding and running on it!

So updates! Last week I got around to tearing the third rail out of the track I used and laying it down. I also skipped the expensive grass mat, went to the DIY store and found some of that green in/out door carpet. Got it home, cut it to size and stapled the heck out of it to the door, then laid my track on top. The switches I used for this were actually a pair of Japanese 1024 knockoffs and 2 1024's that are missing the little indicator flags.

Now I just have to secure the track. It's really good for what it is, you sure have to be johnny - on - the - spot with the switches though. May add a pair to the one side that doesn't have any yet. I also found some Hafner buildings that look like they're in good shape on the auction site, from that old accessory set with 3. There's just enough room for the platform and two stations either on curves or a straight somewhere!

More updates to the thread!

I got those Hafner buildings in the mail a few weeks ago and set about taking them apart to clean. Although they were quite dirty, underneath there were very few blemishes, so I was pretty happy with that.

I did add another pair of switches and some track to the one side to complete the loop... more options for... operator error!

Today, the reason I'm updating this thread right now is I had my first Marx motor sproing event where the little tab on the spring broke off of the hub. It's interesting to see just exactly how long the springs are in these little motors. The motor is fixed after a bit of blood and some swearing and winds up just fine. it's turned my new little Seaboard diesel into quite the pulling champ, probably the best clockwork locomotive I have... which brings me to another question. Marx made the Monon and Seaboard liveries that I currently have and I know of the KCS (so pretty). Are there any other liveries that the little diesel was made in?

That style diesel only came in the three road names. I don’t recall the KCS ever coming as a clockwork
