Prior to the last forum upgrade, closing a viewed photo was easy; just click on the "X" in the upper right-hand corner.  Now, the "X" is gone and the viewer has to guess to hit the ESC (Escape) key to close the photo and return to browsing the thread.

My suggestion would be to either return the missing "X" or put a small message like "ESC to close" somewhere on the edge of the photo.

FWIW - using Firefox on a MAC, two of the three photos posted by Trainroomgary have the "X" in the upper right corner and indeed clicking on that X closes the photo.  For the first photo, it looks like its getting displayed with perhaps a portion of the top cut off - if so - the X is not present.  Although, as others have noted, its really a simple matter of clicking outside the frame of the photo to make it disappear (close).

The pictures on my screen don't scroll, just the background posts.

Mine too.  I found that going into the browser settings and reducing the zoom from 100% to 75% will bring the "X" on the photo into view.  But then after closing the picture, I don't like the 75% zoom.

In the meantime, clicking anywhere outside the photo to close it sounds like a good idea to me.
