This just came up on eBay:
I don't know all that much about older 2 rail (duh!) and did not know CLW ever offered an F unit.
Is this an unusual model?

I have heard they did. I have never seen one. I think I have seen photos of an ad where they show a cast nose, but sheet brass etched or builtup sides.
What makes you think this is is CLW?
I have seen ads in O scale Railroading from the 1980s for clw F units
This is NOT CLW, it is likely an Adams and Sons casting or less likely a Baldwin Loco Works casting. CLW had much finer details as well as etched brass sides and lost wax cast nose. Otherwise it was from one of the very very small producers.
I'd say unusual. I have never seen one. The trucks look interesting - with proper gears they would be bulletproof. The ones we have seen (on six axle Adams Diesels) include brass axle gears, which last just about long enough for a test run.
I would bid, but I would be bidding against friends. We are a very small group, and I have way more than my share.
And while I agree with Morris, do not forget that early CLW included an all-cast PA and the all brass cast NW2. I would not be able to definitively say that Bob was not in on the deal, since he had Adams cast some of his other work.
Here's a few more pix..although by now I suppose most of you have looked it up...
It looks like an old Varney HO model from this angle.
Anyway, there you go...

I guess it is now definitive - Central Loco Works. Adams probably poured the metal.
Wow, primordial CLW casting, imagine milling out that windshield. I don't recall ever seeing one of these. A little thick around the pilot too, but certainly a cut above the Wentzco version, though opinion, not as good as the A&S FT, or the KenKraft F3 version derived from that casting.
Looks like the same general quality as my FTs. Have not seen the Ken Craft F3 - would love to see one.
This unit has intriguing trucks.
Bob Smith of CLW did offer both F-3 and F-7 kits with nose and end castings and etched bodies. I built an A-B-B-A set of F-3s some years ago. He also offered E-7s (I built and A-B-A set of those) and E-8s in the same kind of kit: cast nose and end, etched bodies. The E-unit trucks were beautiful and even had equalizing levers between the journals (I was never able to get them to function properly, however).
This one went for over a hundred. Man, am I glad I got all my doorstops when folks thought they were crude junk.
