coil couplers on Lionel #2360 GG1

I'm working on a customers Lionel GG1 #2360 engine. He wants coil couplers installed on it. After taking apart the pony trucks, it seems that there is a smace possibly pressed onto the shaft which holds the coupler. Anybody know how to get that off so I can replace the coupler with a new coil coupler. It seems like such an easy job, but I can't get the old coupler off.

My 2360 came with coil couplers. Are you trying to install another type of coupler? PS I installed TMCC in mine and the original couplers work fine.

I think the couplers are solid on the trucks, the pictures here Lionel 2360 Penn GG-1 make them look like the Williams I converted to TMCC and installed coil couplers on. It was not an easy job. I ended up using the longer couplers and doing some modification to them to get them aligned properly.
