I wanted to share the latest addition on the Shady Hollow Railroad.....the lake at the bottom of Twin Falls. I had complete hip replacement surgery this past February and hurried to get things done on the layout and now I am scheduled to have my right shoulder replaced on Monday. That will put a hiatus on anymore work for awhile. This will be the second of the three surgeries I need with the right knee being replaced in the future. I will soon have as much metal in me as my steamers!

Here is the latest project. The lake is actually a drop down which gives me an access hole to this part of the layout.

Wow, I thought I was bad, only needing a knee and maybe a shoulder. Been putting it off as long as I can, I'm a big chicken! I certainly wish you good luck with your surgery(s) and hope you have a full and speedy recovery and are able to get back to your layout ASAP! Your Pics above look very nice, good work! Maybe something nice to play with during recovery, just watch the trains run through the nice scenery.

RTR12, the hip replacement went very well. I really was walking within a few days with help of a walker then a few days after that, just a cane. In two weeks I was walking unaided. I was told that it would be a piece of cake and it really was. The only pain I had was that it felt like I got hit by a fastball in the hip...a Randy Johnson fastball, but that was it. The shoulder and knee are much tougher, but I have found a surgeon that has developed a new technique for the shoulder that goes in posteriorly rather than anteriorly and does not cut the rotator cuff. Usually I was told that the shoulder is the toughest to replace, but hoping Dr. Griewe's method is more like my hip experience. He only started this procedure less than a year ago, so I am still considered a guinea pig I guess.

Rick, "ouch" six weeks is a long time to go without getting something from Menards. Maybe while you are on the mend there will not be something. But I think the store holds an order for thirty days. The worst case scenario would be ship to house. So maybe you can slide under the six week mark of heeling before Menards makes something you really want..................Paul

I am glad to hear your hip went so well. Maybe that is a good sign for your shoulder too, along with the new procedure. The guinea pig part sounds a little scary, but hopefully he has perfected the procedure enough so you don't have any problems. I don't know anyone that has had a shoulder replacement, but I know a couple of people that have had shoulder surgery. I don't recall what the problems were, but they are both fine now. I guess it is really pretty amazing what they can fix these days.

My fear is my ticker that is not what it used to be (heart attack) and my blood pressure is low. I got a couple of more stents a few years ago and lost my blood pressure twice which was scary. Felt like I was heading for the final window to cash in my chips. That is where my being a big chicken comes in. I do know some people that have had knee replacements and they have all been pleased with the outcome. In fact a neighbor in our cul-de-sac had his knee replaced a couple years ago by the same doctor I go to and he was very pleased with his outcome. Said his back even stopped hurting after he got a bit further along in his recovery and was able to stand and walk normally again.

Anyway, enough on me and back to the shoulder surgery that I hope goes well for you and the new procedure really is better and allows a faster recovery so you can enjoy your trains sooner. And also the best of luck with everything.
