A few days ago I dug out an old TPC 300 that I had only used once about 10 yrs. ago.  So I tried using it with my MTH C&O Hudson, needless to say that didn't go very well.

After removing the TPC from the layout and connecting things back together for conventional running.  The engine is doing strange things,  all of a sudden it has a 3 speed transmission operated by the whistle button, it goes from a craw to wide open,   the whistle doesn't work at all,  the bell rings most of the time constantly .   I tried switching the track connections ( polarity) at the transformer  and that only gave me constant whistle.  The engine will still cycle between F N R.

I bought the engine a couple years ago used at a train show and it did not come with a manual and it has worked fine.  I don't know the item number.

I'm using a MRC Dual power transformer.

Any thoughts and help you may be able share will be greatly appreciated.

Since the TPC runs Lionel conventional engines OK, I would assign fault with the electronics in the Yellow Belly.  MTH produced that engine in PS-1, PS-2, and PS-3.  Brain-dead PS-1 electronics typically start sounds but won't move the engine out of neutral.  Can't speak to PS-2 and PS-3 board behavior.

The TPC's output is chopped wave A/C.  Same as the MTH Z1000 and Z500 transformers.   Have you tried running the loco with sine wave power direct from the MRC transformer?
