As we know, many Dept. 56 Snow Village buildings are translucent and so the  walls and roof can look like they're glowing when lighted, especially noticeable in a dimly lighted room. Have you or someone you know ever tried cutting away the floors of these buildings so you can access and paint their inside walls black thereby making them opague and effectively stopping any glowing effect of walls and roofs since the light is totally blocked and only passes thru windows?

Did you cut away the floor using a dremel rotary tool or some other way?

Please describe in detail the method used to avoid cracking or splintering the building.

Are they the type made from "rock-like" plaster material?  If so, I've tried dremeling the snow off a couple of building roofs and it's like cutting into the hardest known substance known to man

Actually I did manage to get the snow off, but it left a very smooth surface, didn't look like any kind of roof I've ever seen.

Heck, give it a shot, what do you have to lose?

It would be better to use silver paint to block and reflect the light, black will absorb it. I learned that from an N-scale magazine article years ago, it worked. You can also paint a light color over the silver blocker, if preferred.

Another way, without cutting, would be to temporarily plug the windows with modeling clay from the outside, then pour a small amount of paint inside and roll it around to coat.
