D&RGW early Prospector & Select Heavyweight Cars in O scale

Golly I should have dusted the glass!

The Division Point is planning on doing the D&RGW early heavyweight Prospector in O scale and select Pullman and CB&Q, and WP Heavyweights. So far guys the details are a minimum of 30 5 car sets must be ordered in no particular fashion, green, black & yellow, or the 4 stripe silver; also included are the Pullman, CB&Q, and WP heavyweight cars. These models were just completed in HO with renowned expert Dr. Dave Allen and Sam Model of Korea; they are spectacular models. I am personally very excited that Sam Model is going enter the O scale passenger end of the hobby; over the years I have drooled over the fabulous models Coach Yard has produced in HO and it has been a dream to get Sam into our scale. What these guys can do in O scale will astonish all of us; truly this is an exciting moment for me. Sam Model is todays premier passenger car manufacturer European and Domestic.

The cars will feature full interiors and complete detailing. Never before in O scale have we had any of these prototypes, Harriman style diners like Mount Massive & Yale, Pullman 8-5's, 12-2-3's, 1000 series D&RGW coaches, CB&Q #1550 series baggage cars, and many more will be available to order.

If you are interested in learning more about the project please contact Jack Vansworth directly at The Division Point.

Roughly, how much will that spectacular CB&Q solarium car cost?

Current HO passenger cars are in the 600-700 range and latest B@A Berk 2100 +, it would not be unrealistic to double those numbers for future O models.

On the Prospector you could pull these with either FT's, or early F3/2's and into the 4 stripe era F9's and PA's. Bear in mind EMD A units did not have steam generators large enough for the whole train; a B unit was always used.  Steam could be M68, 64, 75 any of the various Northerns. The heavyweights are primarily from the HO Exposition Flyer project however the cars were used all throughout the system. The DL3 series cars were all over the CB&Q, lettered as Omaha, Lincoln, or Minneapolis Club the cars were used from the Blackhawk to the Twin Cities Zephyr stand in when the stainless cars were in the shop.  The Western Pacific cars are the same most of these were cars pooled for the 1939-1949 train.

Not familar with those at all, I have only been back active in O scale the last few years. I enjoy your pics on all these brass models. Brass importing in O scale today is much more limited at the high end [finete number of investors at these price points], fortunately Sunset and Weaver cater to a wider market.JMHO

Hey hibar,

Its all good no problem.

The manufacturing processes used to make brass is very different than tooling up for plastic that is certain; looking at the size of the fine-scale o market it simply is not an option to get Exact-Rail or Athearn Genesis authenticity in 1/48 like we see in 1/87 rtr plastic {sadly}.  disconnected pilots, oversize grab irons, creative fit the box proportions, and the other semi-scale three rail attributes although good in there own right own the o scale industry for now.

As far as Sunset and Weaver brass imports go they certainly are a different range of product. I own many many Sunset brass models and enjoy them as much as any other; they do leave off the extended range of detail you might see in a Key or PSC run but nonetheless it all comes down to you the owner and what you want. I like them both; and in some cases I have taken Sunset models with less detail and had them custom finished to as or far beyond anything coming from Korea. Thankfully they are for the most part fine-scale 1/48.

Sadly in o scale the predominance of prototypes are a brass only option unlike HO or N.
