If a engine is set up to run on DC current can you put in a DC commander from ERR and it will work on AC or is there more to it?

Should of done this first but anyway Called ERR and yes it will work. I thought it would but wasn't positive.
Spend the extra few dollars and get a Cruise Commander, rather than a DC commander. The extra cost will be long forgotten as you enjoy how beautifully the loco runs.
This won't get used much I'm just setting it up so it will work when I want without having to have a separate transformer/layout loop for it. It's going to be more or less a set for the wife. ( I love when you can make a set up for the wife and it's yours to use lol)
Any dc can motor can be made to run off ac input with a proper e unit. My original engine was a dc only 2 4 0 from the mpc era. I put a reverse unit in it a decade ago when my son was born and it works just fine.
As long as the board rectifys the AC into DC at the output for the motors, and most do. But, I'm not sure that's the case on every board type reverse unit, I think some may have passed AC to motors via relays controlled by electronics.
If you do not care about Command control, a simple electronic reverse unit from Williams or Dallee or Lionel will be cheaper than a DC Commander.
