Wait! My Smasung tablet just upgraded to 3.0.1 build 47!

My old phone is searching for updates right now but seems like it's stuck searching? Usually takes seconds?

I will report back.

OK, the phone wasn't configured for my router this morning as I tried to run a lash-up last night.

I set-up the wifi and now it's upgrading the app!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally I might be moving forwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update - just so nobody thinks they are crazy, we found Google changed their default release policy to a slow roll out.  They intend this to help in the event a new app has major flaws.  Distribution is done in stages and can be stopped earlier if problems are identified.   So, because of this, it is entirely possible that some of you were able to download the new version 3.0.1 build 47 while others were not.  This was not our doing but, sorry for any angst it may have caused.  We changed or distribution setting back to full release and now everyone should have access.

Hi MTH Rd - Thanks for solving this issue with the Google Play Store.

Need clarification: My Google phone only show version 3.0.1  /  It does not show anything about "Build 47" .  Am I OK with the App, only showing version 3.0.1 ?

Thanks: Gary

Yes.  Some devices may not show the build number while others do.  The world of Android is incredibly variable in comparison to iOS given all the different devices and manufacturers.  The version number will always change with an update as well as the build number.  The latter is just further confirmation and used internally between released revisions.

Well it worked for one day! Today I get WIU/TIU not found.

So I disconnected the outside G scale mains and only wired the inside split between channel 1 and 2 fixed.

I grabbed the remote and both engines came up. I built a lashup of those two with the remote. So I grabbed the phone again.

After several attempts pressing the read, it finally brings up the only 2 engines on the track under TIU#2, when I select edit to run them as a lashup, I get a message "unfortunately DCS has stopped working!"

WTH!!! One day!

Edit: so I could say that I actually ran some trains, I went back and used the remote. I also put back the TIU wiring with each G scale loop on one channel. The remote worked fine. I ran a track signal and it was all tens.

OK, getting somewhere, I should have mentioned that I tried picking up today where I left off yesterday. Because the wifi messed up, once I got it to do a read and find the 2 engine yesterday that it added to new addresses, I moved those with the phone app to their proper addresses.

Now, I rebooted everything. It occurred to me that moving those engines probably meant that the old lash-up built with the phone app yesterday would not work. So I tried three times to boot the app, and everytime I pressed edit, the app crashed with message DCS not working.

So the fourth time I just pressed read, and tried to use the app to run a different engine. It ran that engine. I then pressed edit and it stops and crashes again. So I come upstairs to type this and turn the phone's wifi setting back to the house router to report it to MTH. Even with the MTH WIFI shut off if I bring up the app on the phone and press edit, the app crashes:

"Unfortunately, WIFI DCS has stopped."

Are you sure the phone/tab isn't disconnecting from MTH and trying to find an internet-able connection?

I forget what your using - but both phone OSes can make some odd decisions sometimes - might want to delete any stored wi-fi accounts.

Xfinity app on your phone can do some weird stuff too - favoring itself as your connection.

This happens at the theater where I work - some nearby Xfinity connection pushes me off the theater wi-fi - kind of a pain.

I can run a train with the app. I just can't press the edit button.

It really struggles to read the wifi/tiu. It takes several tries and engine info is missing. I looked and the wifi is on the MTH that I selected. The house is marked saved. I have to physically select the house router to let the app report page connect to send the report.

 Should I reset the app????

Joe,

"unfortunately DCS has stopped working"

Congratulations! In all the testing I've done with the app I've never seen that message!

Seriously, though, I'd encourage you to take a screen shot and use the app's built-in reporting feature to send that one to MTH.

Not making light of Joe's situation at ll, but that reply had me rolling

I said that once to a guy having issues with a synthesizer on stage, and whatever he did, he got it to do something I'd never heard in 10 years of owning.  My comment to him was very similar.

Now then, Joe, sorry you are having these issues.   It is an odd one to be sure.   I checked a friend's Android device on my layout (I use iOS) to try to replicate your problem a few days ago after reading though this,  and so far it's not failing.  I use 1 TIU and 1 AIU.  All four TIU channels are in play on separate loops.   The layout is powered by 2 Lionel 180 bricks and 2 Lionel 135 Bricks (on the smaller loops/yard area)   DCS and TMCC/Legacy.

The only issue I've encountered is one I see mentioned here.....my iPhone kept searching for a  Wifi connected to internet.

Once I stopped that, no issues.

Since I am VERY limited in Android communication protocols, I can't be of much assistance and that front.

I hate to say this, but I have no idea how to get a screen shot of this on my phone. As I'm typing right now, I did not press either choice of OK or Report. So the whole phone went black in the background waiting for this selection.

I did press the report twice when it happened. I had to first select the house router, then pressing edit in the app to get the report screen back active. So I would think that they now know????

Normally I would be ****ed that people are laughing. I waited for months to be able to run consists. But, I find myself laughing too. I found a way to get this sucker to crash. Maybe I'll be known for this from now on???????

Joe Crash.....out.

OK being the brunt of the........

I took my Samsung Tab E tablet down and it reads the track perfectly. It has the engines listed and the info too. I built a lash-up and it ran.

So I hit the reset on the phone and trashed all the info. At least now I can press the edit button even though there's nothing there yet.

I might have to get even down the road with a few............

OK reset of the phone and now it works like new. Loaded 3 G scale engines on TIU#2 no problem. Built and ran a lash-up

We'll see what tomorrow brings. Maybe doesn't like more than 1 TIU? Maybe didn't like the address mixing?

Don't know how you checked when I just got the new app version?

Do you mean that you got the version first? We all know why that happened.

Joe,

Do you mean that you got the version first? We all know why that happened.

Actually, there was no beta test this time around. I got the 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 versions the same time as everyone else. I simply meant that I'd never seen that message in the 2 years or so that I'd been using the various releases of the app, both in beta and the production versions.

Art,

I got the new version on my android tablet but I have not upgraded to 6.1 from 6.0 will I still be able to run trains?  Tried to upgrade before but had so many problems that I had to mail TIU and controller to dealer.

Beats me. If you don't upgrade the DCS and encounter app problems, please be sure to let us know so we don't waste a lot of time trying to fix what may not be broken.

Upgrading the TIU is actually very simple. Nearly all problems occur because people don't follow the instructions exactly as stated.

No Barry, I was asking Escape guy what he was talking about? The 3.0.0 app would not even start a lash-up. So what is he describing????

Joe, I ay not have communicated clearly.  I really meant to say I have been able to read and run lashups with my friend's Android device.

Now then, the fact you brought another device down and everything worked is good news.

It eliminates one part of the trouble shooting.

check you phones memory.

the mth app can not be moved to any external memory card you have installed.

so if your phone is getting full the app might run sluggish

I had cleared up a lot of memory before,  as this phone is an extra. I removed all the pics and videos. I believe there was some conflicts in the app that could not be resolved. It caused the app to lock up whenever the edit button was selected.

I don't think it was the phone. I believe it was from a couple of ghost adds that led to I.D. conflicts. Add the second TIU going to another layout and the app finally crashed. I'm sure I'll hear what it was and how I did it in the following days.

Next, I have just found that one engine I was running finally failed. I believe it has burned traces or some kind of power pick-up issue.

Then, I can't get the next engine running after another power cycle. Everything comes up on power on?

That one ended up to be my Bridgewerks DC pack decided on it's own to swap polarity!!!!!! UURRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!! It's in reverse. There's gremlins followin' me!

Many guys will tell you one is better than the other. What ever way you choose, you then have to go the course. It is getting easier to use other brands. Years past DCC stuff would not get along all that well with each other.

Many users bashed me for choosing DCS. I prefer it for the ease of programming engines. You can read all the times that the software comes out with some bugs and how the layout or even bad decisions can mess it up. Still to this very day, overall, I am satisfied with it.

I have a friend who tried the latest greatest DCC stuff. He tried the latest decoder and although it sounded better, it generated too much heat. I tried a great foreign decoder years past, but I couldn't program the darn thing! Now DCC has come along way since my decision. It still has flaws and until people agree, it still is proprietary to some degree. You will find a favorite decoder for example and then you will find it easier to just use that one. That's because there aren't stricter standards between brands. Within a short time even that decoder will become outdated. It's the laws of technology and/vs the market.

It happens to every brand and every item. So these toys are overall.... very expensive. Choose wisely, and stay happy. I have to say that MTH is progressively trying to stay in tune. I like their decisions. I like the sounds. I really like the fact that it stays up to date with software that's free. I just wish they had more money to hire people to test this stuff out on other than me!!!!!!!!

Someday soon, we'll be running trains from our home universal remotes or even speech, without care of track polarity, self charging, brushless motors, realistic sounds,.... I wonder if Tesla wants to make toys??? Let me talk with Elon Musk and I'll be back.....

I did see your post about the WiFi, I have everything else needed from MRC, now I don't know weather to go DCC with WiFi or DCS? I had planned selling the MRC and going DCS but who knows. I don't know enough about either.

BTW: I still have my first old version MRC Prodigy DCC on my bench. I would also still have the big Digitrax system but I was out of cash at that time. It's all good.

Well Joe, I thought I would let you know I bit the bullet and bought a DCS system. Now not am I only going to be reading about it, I am going to be asking a lot of questions down the road! Still going to hang onto my MRC, might have a use for it down the road!
