DCS control of ERR Mini Comander

I have a couple of MTH Operating Signal man cars and have been told that it could be possible to retrofit the Mechanism in this car to activate anywhere on the layout with this modification. I have also been told that I would need to get a Lionel Command system for this to work.  does anyone know about this.

What you've been told is accurate. I have more than a dozen operating cars, including 3 signalman cars, equipped with ERR Mini Commanders.

 

To operate the cars via the DCS Remote, you'll need a Lionel TMCC or Legacy command base connected to an MTH TIU with MTH cable #50-1032. You'll also need the associated Cab-1 or Cab-2 to setup each Mini Commander initially.

 

You can skip the cable if you just want to operate the Mini Commanders using the Cab-1 or Cab-2.

I'm looking to do something similar. My question is, do you only need legacy or TMCC for the initial setup of the mini commander? Once the board is setup is there any need for the legacy or TMCC again if operating from DCS?

I figured that out about the Mini Commander, but I'm wondering if I also need the Cab 1-2 for the AC/DC commander. There is a step in the setup that designates the unit as a steam or diesel unit that seems to require a CAB-1 or  Cab-2.

 

At this point I could probably get a Legacy setup just for programming future command upgrades (none of the Legacy locos to date have really been must-haves yet), but it's still a bit of a sticking point, even though I can't think of anything I really want to find at York this year.

does it call for pressing the SET button?

If so I believe you need the CAB-1

Now, perhaps some helpful individual near you has a TMCC set and could program the car for you.
