In trying to update to DCS 5.0 the loader can not find the TIU. I am using a USB to 232 cable (with up to date driver). The pc control panel says the device is attached and working properly. I read that some changes to the BIOS may be needed in order to run the DCS loader on Windows 7. Any suggestions. thanks

Larry,
Exactly where in the process is it failing and are you following the on-screen instructions ? Be specific.
Are you searching for the TIU before attempting the upgrade?
Exactly what is the "control panel" telling you?
I searching for com port using the auto search and eventually it gives me a pop-up stating that the program is having a difficult time connecting to a TIU. The control panel on windows 7 states that the cable is connected properly to the PC. I have used this sabrent cable on Windows 7 in an prior upgrade to DCS.
Try using a usb cable rather than the RS-232. I had that problem when I upgraded my TIU. Seems that the RS-232 cable cannot be connected / seated to the TIU, meaning you can't screw the male end into the TIU, screws are to Short. You can try to hold it in and see if the com port is found.
I am assuming you are using the AutoSearch fuction from the application to find the com port the TIU is on.
Second, I had to recycle the power a few times using the RS-232 cable and 90% of the time it was after the 4th try. I got fed up and now use the USB cable. The directions are also easy to read and execute, just make sure that you have the little barrel cable installed.
Try the recycle and USB method - you should be successfuk
DCS 5.0 loader runs fine on windows 7 with no changes to bios. You have to describe in detail exactly what you have connected.
Larry,
When using the Option Menu/Auto Search for TIU, the TIU must be powered up without the 1/8" stereo cable plugged into the ProtoCast and ProtoDispatch ports.
When actually performing the TIU software update, the TIU must be powered up with the 1/8" stereo cable plugged into the ProtoCast and ProtoDispatch ports.
This and a whole lot more is all in “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition", available for purchase from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book.
I have the exact same problem. I have tried using 2 laptops (Windows 8 and Windows 10) and 2 Different cables. In addition, I tried two different TIU's. I called MTH and they suggested using a DigiKey 768-1014-ND cable and I ordered one online and will try when it arrives.
When I use the auto search, it finds the TIU connected to the COMM port. If I disconnect the TIU, this search fails.
When I try loading the new software, the loader program cannot find the TIU. I really believe that the issue relates to the seating of the cable.
What scares me is that I will need to use a USB ===> RS232 cable to connect the WIFI unit,
I didn't know what Barry posted earlier but I got past this error by manually selecting the proper COM port and not using the auto search. Figuring out which COM port you are using may require some trial and error. If you are using a USB to COM port adapter, it will typically be the highest numbered COM port in the list. But "typically" doesn't mean always...
Hope this helps.

Tonygc: I have 2 USB<<>>serial cables connecting my 2 wifis to the 2 TIUs. No problems. Both are Trendnet TU-S9 cables, but I have also used the Gigaware cable.
DO be aware that the fit of some TIU cases is such that it is difficult to get the serial cable seated.
Are you sure that you have followed Barry's instructions and the on-screen instructions precisely?
Edit:
It is easy to find the com port being used by going to the windows control panel and then to device manager.
Using the adapter cable, I find the com port differs depending on what USB port on the computer I have it plugged into.
I have used a sabrent cable for windows 7 and windows 10 and both worked perfectly every time using tiu rev L or older versions !

Tony,
When I try loading the new software, the loader program cannot find the TIU. I really believe that the issue relates to the seating of the cable.
If the Loader Program sees the TIU when using Auto Search, and doesn't see it when attempting to update the TIUs software, the cable between the PC and the TIU is not the issue.
One must turn off the TIU, plug in the 1/8" stereo jumper cable, and then turn the TIU back on, before attempting to update its software.
This and a whole lot more is all in “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition", available for purchase from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book.
I bought the DCS Companion and will try the upgrade again.
Thanks Barry
Got the TIU to update. It was the removing the jumper cable prior to auto search. Got the old remotes to update as well. I'm off to try the WIFI YEAH.

I had this issue when trying to update my TIU. The serial connector DID fit properly in the socket on the TIU. I tried multiple times but the TIU could not be found. I ended up going into "Control Panel," then "Devices and Sound" on the PC. I could see the Serial/USB adapter. When I clicked on it, it gave the message that the drivers were not installed and not needed (contradictory to a layman). I let the PC search for a solution. It found the drivers and installed them (still stating that they were not required). After that, the TIU was found immediately and the upgrade proceeded with no further issues.
Definitely user error on my part.
