I just switched my G scale loop to DC current. Not only do I have perfect signal strength ( I did pretty much already), I can now run anything I have. It's a big Bridgewerks 25amp pack. I added it in passive mode (dcs added to the outputs as described on Raymond Manley's site). I just ran two trains 2 engines a piece with smoke on both and noticed at 18volt reading she was pushing about 11 amps. So I upped the throttle to 24v reading and the amp gauge dropped to 7-8 amps? Thats with 4 engines smoking and pulling long trains (2 each). I used to kick the single Lionel 180 brick I had assigned to it. I turned the smoke off and parked each train noticing the amp gauge response to each move. I think I'll go try 6 engines smoking with lit cabooses. Maybe I can get more G scale engines now??? Where's Scottie with my excuses??

Joe    I run DC with my DCS and it works fine but I don't have as much track laid as you do but the DCS seems to like the DC, don't have a Bridgewerks power supply either, but a switching supply at 18AMPs not whats recommended! but Im looking out for something  here in Australia.

I just retried my switching DC supply in passive mode. It runs at 24 volts up to 20amps!. I installed a inline fuse for protection. I just got tens again for signal strength?

It seems like I'm having more trouble with a (couple?) finicky board(s). It runs better when used often. I believe the signal response is better when the battery is charged? Why does it get worse when not used?

I guess I'll try a BCR in it next. I can't blame the supply until I get this straigtened out. I really should thank "Tank" again. I didn't realize how big this power supply is. I think overall I need the headroom in current. I wonder if the AC bricks get noisey at full output?
