dcs OR wi fi????

The wifi doesnt stand alone. You need the command system to use the wifi.

Lionel wifi connects to a legacy base, MTH wifi connects to the TIU. 

So the only answer I can come up with to the question is to say DCS, since you need it no matter what. 

 In order to run trains with WIFI you stil need DCS and for Linel you need the LCS though I thing you can run the LCS WIFI without the base but im not sure how that effects running trains. My LCS WIFI module is connected to my legacy base

I have the DCS system and I run WI Fi with it and it works very well. There are limitations though on what you can do with the Wi-Fi verses the DCS hand held controller. That should be corrected with future up-grades that are scheduled in the near future.

You need both to work.   I installed it earlier this week.  My experience so far has been very good if not excellent.  You'll find its far easier to access all the extra soft key sound and light keys along with the easily forgotten extra engine features hidden in the remote I previously never bothered to utilize.
