DCS set up:

Single TIU fixed 1> 2rail loop, fixed 2> 3 rail loop passive mode each output with its own Z1000. Protection: 7.5 amp glass fast blow fuses between each Z1000 and output to tracks.

What precipitated both TVS failures:

This would be operator error. See photo...i inadvertently switched the 2 red banana plugs at the fuse inputs while playing around with a combination meter with a CT pickup ring. Both fuses blew.  Ohm out both tracks for shorts/ok, ohm out TIU outputs/shorted...near 0 ohms. Proceeded to open up TIU for a look over, all looked good and no electrical odors. Checked both TVS's and they read shorted. I snipped both TVS's out of circuit and retested TIU operations..a sigh of relief and all back to normal..and yes new TVS's installed.

I wish there was an indication of when the TVS have failed. Are we supposed to check them??

The dead short (open from physical damage) is the only failure that is detectable.

I just decided to replace them once a year or if the were any big electrical events near the house, like a lightning strike.

The info can be found on this topic.
