A little bit of clarification may be in order.

Any new DCS (hardware and software to run on it) is at least a year away. Further, there's no guarantee that the new software will be able to be installed on the old hardware.

There is, however, a bug fix release for the current DCS that is being worked on and, I believe, will be here somewhat sooner.

Is it not about time they ( MTH ) do a complete re-design of the DCS platform? It seems that when you keep adding fixes and new items to the old platform, it becomes non-productive.

They have to do what Lionel did, take the best from TMCC and dump the rest. Legacy  is a vast improvement from TMCC and DCS has to thru the same changes.

While I am sure there are many that are looking forward to a newer hardware/software package, I do think that it would be good if the new software was backward compatible with the older units. I realize it may not be, but it would add to the value of the older versions. The ability to upgrade the new versions of software into the previous hardware devices was a plus for MTH.

As with anything though, things do change and they do move forward. And I might be alone in my desire for this to happen as I wrote above. Do not interpret this as a "shoot the messenger post."

Greg

If the new software can do things that the old hardware can't handle, that's one thing.  But if the new software can be loaded onto the old hardware and just be able to access all the new features, that would be acceptable.

Sort of like adding Windows 8 to an old computer.  The computer will still work, but it won't have touch screen capability
