Can do it either way.  The slave kit winds up a little cheaper.  If the trail is dummy you only need a harness to control the coupler and lights.  Normally you can get away with a 4 pin PS-1 harness if that is the case.

 

The real issue is how the trucks are made for installing the harness external connector.  Drilling trucks for 2.5 or 3mm screw thread is no fun.  The alternative is to mount via shell, but customer needs to be ok with that. 

 

You may also have a long wait for the slave kit.  Took several months to get the 2 I have.  One ABA and one Turbine.  G
