I am using DCS loader 5.0 to upgrade my TIU to 6.0 code. When I plug in my USB cable the DCS loader tells me I don't have any serial ports on my PC which is true. So why doesn't it recognize the USB connection?

Brad,
It's most likely a driver issue:
- Have you used this computer and cable to do DCS upgrades in the past?
- Did the cable come with a software driver and did you install it?
- What version of Windows are you using?
You also need to tell us exactly what you're doing and exactly where in the process you get the message.
I agree with Barry about the driver issue, best way to tell is to make sure your USB connections are secured, power on the TIU and Windows should detect it, and assign a com port to it.
Under your device manager look for an expanded section with perhaps a yellow exclamation mark. This usually means the device could not be started and most likely due to a driver missing or incompatible driver.
Several folks here have also reported needing the drivers MTH has posted on their DCS page. Where you get the updates to the DCS software. I believe it's the last one on the list.

I believe this link should work for the TIU USB drivers: http://mthtrains.com/news/013a
Thanks for the link, I have always had trouble linking to anything on the DCS page. Looks like you must have the secret handshake!
Thanks for the drivers now it works! I wish MTH would do a Mac version of the DCS loader. It would be so much easier.
