Just had my WIFI box upgraded to version 1.1. I do not yet have the 19.99 upgrade app yet. Do I need the app upgrade to get quilling whistle? Do I need the app upgrade to be able to run a MTH lashup? I also tried to add a locomotive using WIFI. It couldn't find the MTH loco until I picked up my DCS handheld unit and pulled it up on the Remote...Then Wifi found it and added it to the active loco list on my Acer tablet. Is this normal? What else will I get if I get the app upgrade. Thanks for the help. Not into this WIFI stuff too much just yet. I get good consistent results using the DCS handheld remote. Hard to make the change.

I don't believe the free app will run consists. I believe it will store only 3 engines. Nothing else would be needed that I know about to do the upgrade. Once you purchase it, it will be free to load into any other android device that you own.

I think it was just some coincidence that the engine loaded after bringing it up in the remote. I have had similar issues like that and fixes. There might have been some conflict that cleared itself when you brought the engine active?

You may have an older android version in your device causing an issue? Is it up to date? What version of DCS? 6.1?

Yes, DCS 6.1. I also have the 4.99 app. I have about 50 Proto 2 and Proto 3 engines that come up in the active or inactive list on my tablet

Uh oh, I really don't remember just what the 4.99 app does and what it doesn't do. It added more engines and controls. I just don't know about the whistle. I have the pro app in all my devices now, once it became available. That might have been a few years ago now?

Do you see the playable whistle button in the settings screen?

"Tap to turn the playable whistle on or off (if so equipped). The Playable Whistle state is not stored when the engine is powered down so, you will need to turn it off and back on in the app each time you power up your engine. Your engine’s whistle will not play if set to playable and is actually in the default whistle mode."

You can also just double tap the whistle cord to toggle it on and off. When it's on, the cord is purple.

Thanks Joe...This is helpful. So how would a person know about the purple cord and the double tap? Does the upgraded app have some form of instructions or is it up to the user to figure it out?
