A friend has a DeHaynes Santa Fe F3 A-B-A that is built as a Gauge One loco set; according to my research these were also available in Std. Gauge, which I assume is three rail Standard. The current set up is an AC motor with a switch to convert from AC current to DC current. My windy approach to the question, can this loco have center rail pickups added somehow without major surgery? These are too pretty to sit on my friend's shelf, he wants to run them. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It's a great question. These models were made as either Gauge One or Standard Gauge but different parts were made for each version. For instance, the passenger car trucks were made differently for each one, different parts, etc. The center rail pick-up is designed into the SG truck mount so it can not easily be changed over.
It is not as easy as it may seem. Many have thought about it and to this day I have never seen one converted. I would look for SG version and snatch it up when it shows up. They are out there, you just need to be patient.

Thanks, ARNO.
Luke,
How about photos of the DeHaynes F3's?
Arno, do you or do you know where to find pix/specs for the DeHaynes F3's?

Thanks Arno!
Info/history for DeHaynes Co., do they have a catalog?
Any other DeHaynes rolling stock, track or other loco's?
Dimensions of the F3's?

Check out the article in a recent Train Collectors Quarterly (TCA magazine), I don't remember which one, but it was this year.
