I have 2 sets of these street lights that were a gift from my grandchildren. I plan on using them on my floor level Christmas layout. A sticker on the battery pack states that they can be used with a plug-in adapter 55026. According to the Dept 56 web site this is 2.5 v 500mA wall wort.

I will be using dedicated a power source for accessories. I am trying to hide the bulk of the battery units or dealing with a dedicated wall wort.

I thought I would ask here before I tried. I don’t know if there might be any electronics in the Dept 56 equipment that would cause a problem.

Can I cut the plugs and power them with accessory power ac or dc using this unit?25121D73-9725-474D-9711-5BF43DF5C659

I believe that should work fine.  However, before you cut any wires, set the converter to 2.5 volts and connect the DC output of the converter to the battery box connections observing polarity requirements.  Negative to the top coil and positive to the plate.  If there are no problems, then go ahead with the modifications.

Perhaps asking  @gunrunnerjohn if I missed something might be prudent.

Mark: Yes. The buck converter should work for this application. It takes a higher AC or DC voltage as input and reduces it to a smaller DC voltage. There should be a potentiometer on the board that is adjustable to achieve the desired voltage. Be sure to put a meter on the outputs to adjust the voltage before you hook it up to the street lights.
