I do not remember which book I read that stated the 1835 was the economy model of the 385.  The 1835 did not come with copper trim.  Most of the trim was blacked out except for the handrails that ran along the boiler, the bell and the red LL plates under the cab windows.  The grey 385’s seem to have various combinations of trim for which I cannot find any clear information on.  I have a grey 385 with the Ives tender.  No copper, all nickel trim except for the red LL plates under the cab windows.  I know of a few people who have converted their 1835’s over to all copper trim.  To each, their own.
