Was this set ever made? The caboose is different. The whole thing is shown in a catalogue.

The caboose looks unique. Green sides red roof and orange windows.

edit: The caboose is fairly common and like the book this one has the lubrication label. It says only the orange window ones have the label.

Jim C,

Yes this coal train was made.  The steam engine was more popular outside the big cities where electrics ruled.  In fact, the steam train was cataloged for 2 years (1929 & !930) and the Electric was 1929 only.

The caboose is common as dirt, this is why the red/black on is so prized... as far as the orange ones having labels is not scientific... labels were used until 1930ish BUT sporadically after that for NOS constructions... I wouldn't hang my hat on the labels around this time anyway.

Timothy,

I have seen either caboose with either engine, I think they came either way.

I liked this particular set myself with the black & red caboose to match the engine & tender, was never fond of the Green & Red caboose, unless its on a Christmas train.  This is a nice old set and if it is in running condition worth the money they are bidding.
