I have read references on here to a fix for the air whistle on the entry-level steam sets, like the Pennsylvania Flyer, that "disappears" as the train goes faster.

Does anyone know what exactly the fix is?  It seems like at slow speeds, the whistle is more than adequate, but by the time you hit full steam, it's almost impossible to tell if it's functioning at all.

A couple of things could be effecting the sound level, first could be the transformer is too small, if it is a CW-40 try a larger transformer like a CW-80. The second thing is that the circuit board may have a problem, to determine that; take the engine off the track and any lighted cars and leave the tender on by itself, then turn up the power to full and try the whistle and see what happens, if the sound is low or distorted the circuit board is bad.
