Guys,

Do you have things that you'd most like to do in York (besides eat scrapple)? Around this time of year, I dream of what I'd most like to do in York.....I'd most like to see a demonstration of Santa Fe trains and I would most like to see a long consist of Milwaukie Road trains. As well as attend a few workshops on how to scenic a hobo junction! How about you guys do you ever dream of York?

Good one !

My York dreams are nightmares.

I get some of my best ideas after I have put my head down on the pillow at night.  The problem is I start thinking them through so much, I have to get up and put the idea down on paper while it's fresh in my mind or get to my computer and go online to see if my idea has been talked about somewhere so I can get more ideas.

Makes for getting to sleep rough sometimes.  So what else am I going to dream about at my age.

I've never been to York.  I may never make it either.

I attended a local train show in Asheville, N.C. about 4 months ago.

After we set up our club display, I cruised the show and found a booth where 3 guys were selling (giving away) all kinds of new and used O Rail 3 rail goodies.  It was everything a fellow at bought and some of it, never used.  Still new in the boxes.  He had passed away and his wife told the 3 guys to not come home with anything but money.

I bought about $2000 worth and using my books figured what I bought came to about $6300.  I couldn't stop going back.  My buddies watched me come back time after time piling up boxes until I had a mountain.  It was like a fever.  But I don't regret for a second what I bought.

I'll bet that doesn't get done a York.

Of course it was a once in a lifetime thing.  I felt like I was in a dream.

Sure, it is the quintessential train meet. None better to find those hard to get items.

And Paul (Corvettte) I am sure you would benefit from going, if it is only once to see what everybody else is taking about.

Then there is the Forum get together at Fridays. Life is very good for those who can make the trip.

Having been to 66 York shows, I just want to go in good health.  York is the greatest show on the planet for train guys/gals.  Eddie G put it correctly.  If you want to go to York, go.  The best thing about York is saying hello to all the great people.   I will be there this October and hopefully I will get to say hello to some of the newer forum members.

I tend to agree with you guys.  If I ever were to go, it would be because many people on this forum I would like to meet are all at this one place and its the only place where a lot of them are ever likely to be.  At the rate I am meeting folks from this forum now - maybe one person every three to four months, it will take way too long.

Still, I seriously doubt if I will ever get to any York meetings.

So I just registered. Dream fulfilled; first York!

I will bring wife & dogs in our large RV and camp on the fairgrounds. Hope to arrive Thursday before the meet starts, but will be tight (have to work Tues night and then leave Wed AM from FL)

So can I get a ride to on Thursday for Friday's?

Hope to see you guys there,

Bruce

My first York in 1980 was a bit overwhelming for me.  I never observed so many trains in one place.  I was able to do the complete show in about six hours.  Back then the doors opened at 0800.   Today, all three days are needed to do it right.  The crown jewel is the Orange hall.  I now have a secret York weapon.  It is called  "Locolawyer".  The show can only be open a short time and he knows where everything of intrest is and where the forum guys are located.  Great information and all it costs me is a beer or two at Fridays.

We would go out just for a Friday and leave about 5:30 AM to get there from South Jersey.  I would dream I missed the alarm clock and overslept, run like crazy on Friday, come home Friday night and have York withdraw for a few days after. Last year we went out Thursday and Friday and stayed with the wife's relatives in Lancaster. Had a better time, took more of a leisurely pace. left home at a more respectable time. Saw and did more. Had my fill of York for the weekend. Dreams stopped.

I would go if I could teleport there instead of slogging the hours on the interstate, hotel bills etc. I guess I'm just not that into the York thing much like Lee. Steam, etc excursions are another matter. Model trains are more of an adjunct than a central kind of thing. Or, another must aside from live steam are Thresher's Reunions.
