First you might check with the technical and historical societies of the specific roads your are interested in. The late Al Staufers books have a good array of photos of  diesel power. and also places like Ron's Books and Withers Publications which you can find on the Net and just search on the Net in general. The PRR Technical and Historical Society magazine had a dynamite 2 issue coverage on PRR F units. They can be found on that well known auction. There are several books specific to the subject out there.

Here is Wither's website:

Withers is a good source for Erie Builts

Another possibility is checking out a back issue of Classic Trains Magazine. A few years ago they devoted an entire issue to F units. It had a full history on type and production, road names, lots of pictures, cut-away drawings, and some technical specs. Not sure if it has what you're looking for but it's got to be worth checking out.

Pretty sure you can purchase back issues.

Edit: It was the Spring 2015 issue.

"F Units:  The Diesels that Did It" is what you want for F units:

https://www.amazon.com/Units-D...way&sr=8-4-spell

The same author, Jeff Wilson, also published "E Units:  Electro-Motive's Classic Streamliners."

https://www.amazon.com/Units-E...s=gateway&sr=8-3

Together, they have line drawings, dimensions, model variations explained, etc.

My copies of both are no longer used by me; if interested in acquiring these outstanding volumes, contact me via email in my profile.
