I would like to replace the incandescent light bulb in may 494 rotating beacon (the one with the vibro motor) with an LED one. Does any company make such a bulb?. If yes, can you provide me with the name of the company or a web site. Thank you.

I'm not sure if any companies make a bayonet base LED bulb yet. PS, haven't seen you on the forum for a while. I checked after DON posted, So I guess they are available.
Hi Erol!
I've picked them up at trains shows for my 022 switches.
Check out your favorite online auction site.
Town and Country Hobbies . com is my first place for LED's for Lionel. Not sure if anyone has a larger selection.

Hello all,
I just looked at the Town and Country site and I have a quick question. Do the leds use the same bulb numbers as listed for use in postwar items? And also, how can you tell if an led is multi directional of focused beam? Is there a letter or number used in the description that designates that info? I guess what I'm asking is there a conversion chart? I did not see one on the website referenced. I may have missed it.
Thank you,
John
if your talking about the beacon that rotates on a heat bulb i seriously doubt you'll find one the bulbs heat makes the fins on the aluminum are angled up to let the heat escape which makes the lens fixture turn! the led does not produce heat.

HI Loco lawyer - I did just what you asked about to my 494 rotating beacon. Used a Bright white led (bayonet mount) I bought from Town and Country a couple of York's back. Works great. Attached are some pictures.
If you want to contact me off line and send me your mailing address I can mail you one. Check to make sure your beacon is a bayonet mount.
I’ve used this site ... https://www.superbrightleds.com
An issue could be that led’s tend to be unidirectional with its light beam. I haven’t found omnidirectional led’s very available. The beacon would seem to need a side projecting light beam.

Rich and George,
Thank you for suggesting Town and Country Hobbies. I ordered some bulbs from them. Hopefully I'll get them by the end of the week.
