I have a new C&O Legacy Mikado and I want to re-letter to a Pere Marquette version. I have only had this for a month and was wondering if it voids the warranty to do this. The manual says modifying the locomotive would void it, so I assume it does.

Based on past discussions about the topic on the forum, I believe any sort of modification including weathering would void the warranty.
Yes it does, sorry!
Thanks guys. It is what I figured. I will just wait till the warranty period is done then re-paint it.
I spoke to Lionel, before the present management, about repainting my Warhorse Hudson. I was told that it would not void the warranty by simply repainting.
Ever since the advent of legacy the new standards have taken effect. It would be best to contact Lionel and ask them to make sure.

However for a professional job, one must disassemble the loco and disassemby means warranty voided!

In order to install a battery in some engines you need to take the shell off.
Just simply taking the shell off, unless there is something special about the Vision Line engines, I doubt if it voids the warranty.
