Keep the dog off the layout.!
I have a lesser but similar problem at times.
The cat likes to wander the layout and tends to knock over lamp posts and such that are not glued down yet.
My layout around the Christmas tree is a good cat sitter..I think he's hypnotized.
"Dog Ate My Stream Shovel"
He probably used that excuse for his homework too.

I've noticed the same thing with our cat. He seems to be fascinated with the trains running under both of our trees.

What a hoot!

I "HAD" a figure of a woman waving, until I noticed my female cat lurking around the building I had the figure glued to. Next thing I knew the figure was gone. I have searched all over for her and nothing, not even a shoe
Now, that's pretty funny, a listing with a sense of humor.
If I didn't already have 2 dogs n 2 cats I'd bid on that one. He or she looks pretty mischevious. Sorry LOL I know that's not spelled right. But you know what I mean. That long nose and that look. LOL

I feel your pain. When my 13 year old American bull dog Baby was a puppy I let the door to the train room open as I would be gone only a few seconds. When I came back she was feasting on a scale K-Line PRR smoking caboose. Replaced the caboose but Baby is priceless. Jim. r
Our cats are fascinated by the trains, and follow me downstairs when I run them. But they very rarely wander on to the layout. I can always tell, because there'll be a telephone pole down here or a tree knocked over there. Never anything major.
Dog ate my homework, really...
IMO, cats love Christmas trees. My theory is they think we bring them into the house for their amusement and adventure. Our first Christmas in the house with our cat, Noel, she'd disappear, from time to time, and I couldn't find her anywhere, until I went to adjust an ornament, one day, at shoulder height, and was startled a bit seeing her looking back at me at eye-level, perched nearest the trunk across a couple limbs! She had been climbing up there, perched with all due authority, surveying us, for quite some time, I assume.
And yes, as soon as the layout's tunnels and mountains were finished, and all the utility poles emplaced, I'd find tufts of her white hair lodged on the arms of the poles and along the tops of portals. I am sure the tunnels were irresistible to her. It was all okay with me, just part of sharing a home; I'd simply take duct-tape and periodically clean the evidence up. She was too much of a buddy for me to complain.
Should have been a pretty interesting pile for the pooper scooper
I had a teacher's dog eat my homework one time.
Very funny...I had a good laugh.
I found this fellow under a bush a few weeks ago. About 4" long, eyes barely open. Fed it with a bottle than later solid food.
BIG MISTAKE ! He now thinks he owns the train room and I work for him.

Bill,
He looks just like my railway cat, Mr. Greebo, who sadly died in October. Mr. Greebo was partial to sleeping on the tracks too, and I have got into the habit of always giving a horn blast when a train approaches parts of my layout that are out of direct view.

"Thinks" the train room is his?
Are we in denial?
And, if you have a heart big enough to have done what you did a few weeks ago..as would I , then I would say YOU have been adopted!!
Congratulations!!!
...and Merry Christmas!

BTW...The poochie pic in the auction needed only a serial number beneath it to complete the shtick.
