I never thought I would do it...I decided to use my x-mas funds and buy a MTH pink 408e and matching 418 passenger cars from 2005.  When it comes to tinplate I really like unique colors... you never see this earlier MTH pink set come up for sale...had a chance to purchase this MINT set it at a price I couldn't refuse...so I grabbed it.  Here are some pictures..

I'd like to see how a train of alternating pink and blue cars looks.

My pink 408 is two-tone with a darker roof; kinda eases the pepto-bismol look a little.

Use it on a string of 200 freight, and you know, it doesn't look that odd. You can get away with anything in tinplate.

I just learned recently that Lionel actually had a pink 408 back in the day.  They aren't common, but it was a vintage color.

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments.  I have to admit, I thought my three daughters would think that this set was cool.  When I ask "Isn't it pretty neat?" No response for a couple of minutes... Then my one daughter takes her eyes away from her Iphone for a quick second and replies "Eh, Do they have purple?... I guess maybe you could run it at Easter?"  .  Excitement deflated... Oh well...I guess it will have to grow on me.

terry,

The other 408e is turquois.  It was cataloged in 2005 Tinplate V1 along with the Pink, Mustard, Red/Blue, and two tone brown
