A bit off topic, but before I got into tinplate, and at my infancy with toy trains, I was mostly a model plane and car builder. Our family room had 3 large display cases filled with the cars and planes. For my fledgling effort in trains, I had found a donut case at a donut shop that had gone out of business. The enclosed donut case was great due to a lot of sawdust in the garage from various projects. I just added a back to it and had glass shelves made. My first permanent model railroad resided in the lower part of the case and my overflow cars and planes were on top. Note the cloth grills on the side so we could hear the sounds from the trains. This was about 2002. A lot has changed. The cars are gone as well as some of the planes. The rest of the planes are in boxes in the attic and all the cases are filled with trains, except the donut case. It went to a friend of mine when we moved.
