We're still around, even though we do more kits in HO & N scale these days. I'll be starting the O Scale versions of our HO Metals Bank & Sisters of Mercy Thrift Store in a week or two. Here are a couple of photos of a custom build I did using our First Timer Bar as a starting point. It really shows how much more realistic the patternwork can look on a hydrocal kit vs a run of the mill plastic one.

This kit w/the original First Timer signs is available for $40 PP. If you want one contact me off list as I have not had a chance to add it to the site yet.

Here is another picture of our new sidewalks. You get 4' for $30, special to our OGRR friends this week if you buy 2 sets I'll send a 3rd at no charge, again, contact me off site.

Cheers!

Good question. While you can use any color to seal the castings, if you use a dark one (gray/red/black) then when you add your colors on top of it you will have to lay them on extra heavy & thick to cover it up. With white you are starting w/a clean sheet of paper.

When I first add my basic brick color I put it on fairly thin and paint the whole building, trim, concrete, stone, whatever. That gives me a good color coat to start with.

Then I paint the details.

Then I add the details & weather it.

There is a complete, illustratedtutorial at our site;

totally agree with wanting more kit options from DD. they are the absolute best in terms of brick castings. There used to be at least a dozen or more in o scale always available, with new ones introduced fairly regularly. now, about the only ones you can get are on ebay and they always go for pretty outrageous prices. there are still wall sections available but the fronts are few and far between.hopefully, randy will see a good response from the two new ones which will prompt him to make some other options, maybe the size of the Labor building, although that pawn shop building in his post, which I believe is HO, is pretty sweet and would be a welcomed addition to O scalers, IMO.

Randy,
To further the conversation,  Magneson models made some really neat old stone front buildings that had a lot of character. A version of these would fly off the shelves in this area. Coupled with a Miller Engineering sign would-be a big hit.
One question.  Why the limited numbers? Is it a tooling issues?
Ever think of increasing capacity?
Keep up the great work.

I've wondered about that limited production as well although I suspect the casting molds wear out after awhile. that said, the active bidding and super high prices for any DD kits on ebay suggest a very strong demand for out of production kits. some of those older structures, like the hotels, etc., could be made into very different buildings with other signage. there were some real classics in the early editions of o scale DD kits. Sure wish there were more now with maybe a few fronts (with specs for what grandtline windows and doors to buy) that we could at least kitbash to our own specs. there's nothing to compare with the realism of randy's hydrocal castings.
