I am getting closer to ordering the track I need for my layout, and I have a question about Ross switches. I am going to buy them prewired with dz1000 or 2500 machines (haven't decided yet). Ross mentions with certain switches that you may need a dz1008 relay (I assume for engines with shorter distance on their rollers, to allow powering the frog I would guess?? <---total ingnoramus, and my dad was an EE *okay, dad, stop growling, I can hear you from here*).

Ross on some switches, like the double crossover or some of the yard switches, indicates where you may need it.

I don't have anything exotic in terms of switches, I am using

O31s in industrial/dock area

054/072 curved switch

O72 switches

#4 switch pairs for crossovers

#170 4 way yard switch.

The kind of small engines I am talking about are engines like the Lionel conventional Docksider, the K line Plymouth switcher, an RMT Bang S4, plus possibly some of my old motorized Lionel units like the burro crane/fire car. Most of my other engines are larger engines that likely had pretty wide spread between the rollers.

The  only one I could see needing it might be the 170 4 way yard switch, but on the Ross site they don't mention whether they think this needs it or not the way they do with some other switches.

The technical section, Ross Custom switch website, has detailed wiring drawings that would come with each switch.

Thanks for passing that along, but the technical section didn't answer my real question, which is there any reason for me to be using the relay. The tech sheet for the 4 way yard switch doesn't mention the relay, and they don't have tech sheets on the #4 or other switches I plan on using. I guess my question is if Ross doesn't seem to think these switches need it do them being relatively compact, is there any other reason to use this module? In the spec sheet they mention it can keep lights from flickering going over the switches.
